I contend that had LSU went on to win the Arkansas game 30-14 with a stellar 2nd half performance by the LSU defense, that Les Miles would have done absolutely nothing about the situation regarding our coaching staff on defense. I thank Arkansas for doing what they did. What say you?
I think it has a major impact on his decisions. Losing to Ole Miss is bad enough, but you could make an argument to say, well Ole Miss beat Florida. But losing to Arkansas for the second straight year. Then you have to have a discussion with yourself on changes that need to be made.
I would rather believe that Miles had intentions of making a change anyway, but I just can't convince myself of that. In my opinion, going into the Arkansas game we were likely to have kept both of them on staff in some fashion. Perhaps one of them remaining the DC and the other going back to a position coach. With the way things turned out, the pressure is on to make more substantial changes.
interesting you say this, i thought when it was 31-3 against troy it would happen of course we all know what happened after that. then 31-13 against ole miss i kinda felt good about him axing the dc's but not 100%. after we lost the ark game and i was leaving a friend's house, i said "cheer up, ain't no way we don't get a new DC out of this."
A win over Arky would not have wiped out the defensive problems we faced all year or the other losses. I would like to think we would be looking for a new DC regardless, but of course I cannot be certain of that.
I always give people the benefit of the doubt but even though the nat championship was won mostly with Nicks players, the humiliation of this years season belongs ultimately to Les. He should have benched Lee much sooner, not keep giving him the oppurtunity to throw the games away repeately. The last straw was the total lack of discipline in the team with all those penalities in the Ark game. He just has the attitude that he and the tigers are above every other team, no need to motivate. Oh well he is not who I want to coach what seems to be a great bunch of talent ,year after year. Come on this is LSU FOOTBALL and we lost to 4 SEC TEAMS. Pack up LES and do us a favor
I would hope that he would have made up his mind to make a change after the Troy and Ole Miss debacles. However, based on his locker room speech after the Troy game about how great the defense was in the second half, I think the only thing that gets them fired now is the Arkansas meltdown. Hell I am not sure he is still going to get rid of the co-DCs now.
One win doesnt erase the pathetic performance all season. The hand was forced a long time ago. If anything the whole Pelini scheme, considering that since mid way last year the LSU has been consisntently taken apart. Its just last years team was more capable of making big stops than this years team. Also last years team appeared faster, with much better angles and tackling.
