I don't know that anger would be the right word; more like disgust. My point is that the Republicans have never had any intention of cutting spending; it's just a political ploy to try and make the other side look bad. I say this because every time they are given the opportunity to cut spending they balk. Further, they even backed off the sequester cuts that they originally asked for. What gives? Let's just face it Mobius: the Republicans are no more interested in cutting spending than the Democrats. Name one thing that has been cut since 2000? Even when the Republicans held all the cards they didn't cut spending.
I disagree slightly. I think they are very interested in cutting spending but they just don't have the balls to do it. It's politically unpopular and they're more interested in getting reelected. But that's on the dems too. They just aren't shouting it from the rooftops.
I got the Uncle Sam special--0.5% raise after 3yrs (i think 3 i right?) of 0. not complaining, though. but if the sequester and the planned furlough happens i will be complaining.
I do not disagree. I say that they do not want to cut spending facetiously but the truth is that it is indeed politically inconvenient. You are correct that it is on the Dems also but like I told Pride earlier, waiting for the Dems to cut spending is like waiting on the Republicans to raise taxes: you might see a cold day in hell first. My belief is that our government functions best when both sides use their respective leverage to accomplish something balanced. The dems got their tax increases but the repubs didn't put up a fight on the spending cuts in my opinion; whether for politics or not. I think the Republicans might find a more hospitable welcome than they think if they would articulate which spending cuts they would like and then made an argument for why we need to do it. If ever in our history there is a stomach for making some cuts to defense and entitlements it is right now. If we wait until the economy is better, which will be sooner than most think, it will get kicked further down the road under the illusion of a rosier economic outlook.
To the next campaign contributor with their hand out probably. Every time politicians have to raise taxes so others can have an easier living. They make living harder on other taxpayers.
