It wasn't a tax cut. It was a tax HOLIDAY. It was always intended to be temporary. Else how will SS and Medicare be paid?
Pride, first you have no idea what you are talking about as it pertains to MY politics. Secondly, where were all these proposals when we were debating how to cut the deficit? Did you know that the Republicans did not offer one single spending cut. Not ONE SINGLE ONE! The bill went to the House of Representatives, that last bastion of Republican control, and even they failed to make a single amendment to the bill. Face it Pal, your prized Republicans are wild spenders just like those Democrats that you hate. The whole argument about spending cuts is pure politics on their part; completely meant to get guys like you whipped into a frenzy. You can list all the articles that you want but when given the opportunity, when the rubber met the road, the Republicans balked on their promises to force spending cuts. Don't worry though, today they claim they are going to shut down the government in order to get their spending cuts when the debt ceiling limit is reached in March. Once again they are promising spending cuts OR ELSE......I am not holding my breath and neither should you.
So they compromised to get a deal. Imagine that.. Cuts were not going to happen. Obama made that clear. I mean, not sure if you are aware, but they are outnumbered both in in power and support from the people. Why push a topic that most people don't want and that will not even pass. People don't want to hear about the hard cuts that need to happen. Like people have said, they are afraid to do anything they believe. They have to ride the wave until the time is right. They all do it. The fact that you are denying this is laughable. This is a Democrat wave right now. Surfs up dude. Enjoy your ride. You know, fixing the country and all. You sure you are a moderate? You do not like the cuts. I know. You are for spending under Obama but not Bush.. It was horrible then but needed now. Right?
bull shit. that's a cop out; this is politics not tiddly winks. it doesn't matter what obama made clear, they have the House and if they wanted to they could have forced Obama's hand by refusing to pass tax increases without spending cuts but they refused to do so. i don't like the deal because they failed to get spending cuts and they didn't raise taxes on enough people in my opinion so yes, I am a moderate. that said, if you are waiting on democrats to cut spending then you might as well hold your breath and wait on the republicans to raise taxes as well.
If you do not understand how divided government power is meted out then I cannot help you. The White House nor the Senate can do anything without the House. Everyone has a part to play. Look, the Republicans do not want to be seen as the party who cuts medicare and social security because they know what the political ramifications of that would be. This is why, when given the chance, they pass on spending cuts. They want the President to do it voluntarily I suppose so they can blame him for the spending cuts. But spending cuts is their issue and they are not even fighting for it.
Less than two weeks and you've already rewritten history? So you are angry because they didn't go over the cliff by forcing spending cuts and you're angry because they're threatening to do a government shutdown over spending cuts? Which is it?
