Recently anyway. Before around 2003-2004ish, the schedule was full of cupcakes, with us playing nearly every school in Louisiana. For example, the 2002-03 OOC schedule was Nicholls State, South Alabama, aTm, Delaware State, McNeese State, Texas A&M Corpus Christi, Prairie View A&M, Arizona, Tulane, UNO. This was, of course, the famous No. 1 ranked Arizona year. aTm was not a good team (14-14), and the rest were obvious. This whole big-time scheduling thing is a relatively new thing for the basketball team.
what brady said wasnt a knock against miles, or the football program at all. his assessment was a pretty reasonable one. you took it to be a knock because you hate brady and want it to be a knock.
I think Brady was just stating how he's had the basketball team playing tough opponents but kind of stumbled over the lack of strength of the football's OOC schedule. The problems with this are: 1) There are only a limited number of football games. 2) It's very hard to get a quality OOC team to come play in Baton Rouge. 3) Our conference schedule is harder than anyone elses (from other conferences). 4) And doesn't the basketball team also play a bunch of instate pansies (and lose) as well as some tougher out of conference games. They play so many more games that you just can't make the comparison. And so Brady blew it.
Given the football team OOC schedule I'd say he made a good point. I'm glad he's gone, hopefully we can bring a young HC that will turn things around.
Many fans have complained about the cupcake out of conference schedule. Maybe DD should tell us if he is in favor of playing weak teams. Supposedly we play those teams for economic reasons.
