I was too damn pissed we missed the block on the punt to even notice. But in this article the writer pointed it out: This Week in SEC Officiating Controversies - College Football - Rivals.com "While Miles wasn’t aware immediately, on the same fourth-quarter drive, Alabama appeared to benefit from a generous marking off of a 5-yard penalty for running into the kicker. It looked like the ref walked off 5½ yards. ‘Bama then converted on fourth-and-a few-feet to extend the drive." And if you remember correctly, he made it by less than a half of a yard. Sweet.
The most egregious spot was our opening drive, when they did not award Jefferson forward progress despite being a clear half yard past the marker before getting driven back. Miles didn't seem to raise much of a fuss which I found curious since the spot of the ball is challengeable. Such a poorly officiated game, and such a poor officiating conference.
I said this in another post... but I was being generous and saying JUST from the spot ont he line of scrimmage, they punted on 4th and 6... with a 5 yard penalty, they ended up 4th and inches. Guess the SEC officiating didn't have to take math in school... this 5 1/2 yard miss is obvious they should be replaced.
Yeah, I was trying to figure that one out too. Pretty funny when all of the blown calls seem to benefit one team over the other.
This play has been bothering me. To me it looked like Jefferson ran right up to the first down line and then kinda wussed out and took a step or two back. I think he was trying to avoid getting hit. If he slides instead of wavering he gets the first down. There were a few other plays where I thought if the players had played 'heads up' football as well as playing hard, then we would have had a better shot. At least he actually tucked the ball when he scrambled on that play.
he got hit and then knocked back a yard. forward progress, and impartial refereees, should have given him the yard... and the first down
I was at the game and saw that he made the first down with my own two eyes and I knew we were in for taking it from the refs. I watched a replay of that first series and took screenshots of it and low and behold, I was right. Because I watched the replay, I have jumped on the conspiracy bandwagon. The next picture shows the umpire making a spot that would have given LSU a first down. The side judge overruled the spot.
