............ Russell Shepard last night? I do NOT recall seeing #10 in the game on any of our glorious 44 offensive plays. Any reason why he did not play?
He could've been good with some fly sweeps, reverses, misdirection plays etc...but, that's been the story of his career at LSU. What a waste of talent...
Well considering the horrid play selection, he didn't fit the playcalls. They were blockers last night. He doesn't do that so well.
Ask CLM. He seems to have all of the answers to all of our questions, but nothing substantive is likely to be heard from his mouth. Fail!
I don't believe Shepard has been a waste of talent. I think he is a talented kid who might have been wasted by the coaches or the system. He made a change to WR in hopes of making it to the NFL, however, LSU Might have benefitted more from him being a Denard Robinson type QB that he "might" have been. He seems like a good kid and I hope he conributes more next season. IF any talent was wasted this season we should blame the coaches not the kids, particularly the ones who work hard and promote the program and I have every reason to believe R. Shepard that type of kid.
One third down and I think 4 play he was the only receiver in the game at the top of the screen. I remember cause I was like WTF really? He is the ONE receiver we have in on a passing down. Anyway it doesn't mean anything our entire playbook was designed for plays either 2 yds forward or 2 yards backward we did real well with the backwards plays!
Yes his 244 total yards of offense this year was dearly missed. Sorry Shepard has done nothing to date. Shown some flashes but he has gotten the ball plenty to see if he is truly a play maker This years 13.6 yard avg rec was a huge increase from 7.7 and 6.8 from prior. I have no beef with RS. But I think its time we turn the porch light off on he is the next percy harvin. no OB Jr, Landry etc are going to be our playmakers next year. Shepard was fun with the hype but after 3 years. Meh at best.
I don't disagree at all with that. RS did not pan out to be a great WR after the switch. I don't think he was ever going to be the next Harvin, he does not have an ounce of Harvin's physical features and Harvin was a WR to begin with and did not have to learn the position. I also do not think RS would have been a difference maker last night, I just did not recall seeing him on the field. I am really excited to see Landry next season. I hope he returns kicks and punts as well. He is a stud.
Again, this is why I have been arguing that the gameplan could have worked, but the coaching staff f'd it up with the personnel used. Not using Shepard in my opinion was the right move. What I'm confused about, is why Jarvis Landry, and James Wright were not used more to block. It was obvious that they wanted to get the ball to the edge and those quick hits would have worked had we not used OBJ to block.
