In 1977, I lived in Eugene, in an apartment triad, (private room with shared common areas). A new roommate moved in, who was from Baton Rouge. A pretty good guy, we became friends. One day he says, "I want to show you something, and you're the only one who knows about this", he hands me this little box. Inside there are maybe fifty, 1/3 caret diamonds. Eddy says, "there's more in the fridge, frozen in my hamburger". He also had some rings and pendants, and all together about 200 loose 1/4 and 1/3 caret diamonds. He said that he and cohort worked in the stockroom, of a large Baton Rouge wholesale jewelry company. Apparently it's inventory was so completely out of control, that Eddy couldn't help himself. He said he lived with the stress for two years, until he couldn't take it anymore, then he moved to Oregon. I only knew him for a few months, then we all moved out, with Eddy moving back home to Louisiana. That's the last I've heard, but I've often wondered how things turned out for him. One last thing,.. When Eddy showed me the diamonds, he handed me one,.. and we fumbled it. We lost it in the shag carpet. Later on, (I saw this a couple of times), I came out of my room,.. and there was Eddy searching, with his nose only an inch from the carpet. LOL,.. of course he caught me looking once too.
that is an interesting story, eddie sounds like a crack head that has run out of crack and is now crumbing in the carpet.
that's what we looked like. I guess I was hoping someone heard/knew something,.. I know, 35 years later, probability nil.
I don't remember Eddie's last name. He and a co-worker probably did the crime in 1975. What are you thinking of? Sounds interesting anyhow.
