I agree with being a part of something bigger than yourself and honoring your commitment being traits of high character and what we should be striving for. However, the difference with high impact sports like football is that your skill level and career duration are really dictated by injury. Thus, it is a perishable skill. In football, it's not an if, but a when you are going to sustain an injury. So timing does become a consideration and if you're highly touted, and will be drafted high, and can take advantage of that skill level, you should do it. If he stays, that is certainly admirable, but if he tears an ACL, he will assuredly plummet on his earning potential.
And there isn’t much protection for him should that happen. I think most of the folks here would recommend he go pro given the risk/reward, and I know my heart would sink if he returned and suffered a major injury. I think most would consider him an LSU hero if he returns, and doubly if we accomplish something big next year. It would be a great story, especially if he doesn’t get hurt. About a month ago I already called that he’s staying...
Good point. If you had gotten injured during your last year of college playing pick up basketball or skiing ot whatever, you wou would still be a doctor. But what if you had wanted to be a surgeon? Would you have engaged in any activity without pay the had a high likelihood of incurring a debilitating injury to your hands?
He can get a policy like Fournette did. He seems like a smart guy. A few million worth of a policy would set his life off right if something were to happen. Plus, could see him going into coaching if something bad happened. In anycase, he would be welcomed anywhere in the state for the rest of his life I am sure.
So many what ifs What if a unicorn ran by with a leprechaun on it's back with gold dust shooting out of their asses
Life works itself out. Money isn’t everything to everyone. The mentality it takes to forgo that much money means he has it upstairs at a level most normal people can’t understand. Dude probably wants to play football and own a farm.
