your link says, mlb would waive the minor league contract rule, I don't see why mlb would do that,.. I think it would set an unwise precedent, .. and besides in baseball, even the top draftees are almost as likely to fail as succeed. I think it would be money foolish for the A's,.. we'll see
I don't think he will be drafted in the first round. Too much of a risk that he would use whoever drafted him to get a better deal from the A's, leaving the drafting team holding the bag with nothing to show for it.
The scouts see a potential perennial Gold Glover at short or third with a cannon arm who shouldn’t have trouble winging it to first night in and night out. He’s an athlete and a guy who, with full-time focus on baseball, might be great within a couple of years. I see why the scouts feel that way about him. Plus the A’s have been really good with player development. They just never keep them.
I felt like he should stick with baseball until I heard Skip Bertman this morning. In football as a first round pick he will have a job immediately in the NFL whether he is the starter the first season or not. And his competition is American former college QBs. In baseball he would have a lot of additional competition from all the Latin and other foreign players. And he would be headed straight to the minors riding buses and staying in crappy hotels with no guarantee that he would ever get the the bigs.
Murray has had less than 250 at bats in his college career. Hardly an indicator of his ability to hit major league pitching. And a career backyp QB can still do pretty well financially. Chase Daniels has made $28 million so far.
