He's a guy we're keeping an eye on, but I'm doubtful he'll get a real scholarship offer. We'll sign at most 1 running back this year (maybe none), and we're going to wait on what Darrell Scott says before we really go after anyone else.

Word is that new WR's coach, DJ McCarthy's ties to the west coast (having come from UCLA) may pay huge dividends if we are to land D. Scott. McCarthy has been in touch with Scott even when he was coaching at UCLA, and Scott's attention has now been directed towards LSU.

If we are to land Scott, McCarthy will have been the main reason for it.

Scott has offers from Cal, UCLA, USC, LSU, Colorado, Florida, Florida St., Penn State, Miami, Michigan and Texas.

I doubt Colorado has enough clout to land Scott at this point--unless the kid just gets sold on the idea that HE could be a big part in returning Colorado to national power.....but that's unlikely.

FLorida , Miami and Florida State aren't likely to land him--no particular reason except I just don't feel like he'll be interested. Besides, those schools already have easy access to top-notch recruits that are in-state.

I also doubt he'd commit to USC. I mean, I don't know what the hell Carroll tells all these guys (outside of the standard, "you could be the next Reggie Bush"), but USC already has SEVEN running backs on their roster that are 4-star's OR HIGHER just in the past 2 recruiting classes...and that's not even counting current 3-star running back Curtis McNeal from '08. Sooner or later, at LEAST ONE of the 7 will realize that he's buried too far down on the depth chart, and leave. So I just don't see another 5-star running back giving his pledge to USC.

I would imagine that the 3 major players for Scott's services will be Cal (who's currently a top 10 team and have had good success lately with producing NFL running backs JJ Arrington and Marshawn Lynch), UCLA (whom appears to be turning that program around and with the fresh win over USC last year fresh in the minds of everyone on the west coast, Scott might want to stay close to home and go there) and then the 3rd possible school would be us of course. ;) :thumb:

Supposedly the guy is very talented, could be a 4 star but his grades make him very unlikely to qualify, which is why he hasn't gotten many offers.

Johnson would be a strictly sign and place (academics are horrible).

Running back to possibly none has changed; if we get Darrell Scott which is #1 on the board and lists LSU predominantly. Keep an eye on Kye Staley and Jerico Nelson.

Kye Staley's parents: if they have the choice; it is LSU!!

I agree that Scott is not coming to USC. He holds an offer but he's shown little interest and at the L.A. Scout combine he barely spoke to anyone.

If grades are an issue you can forget about ucla. Besides that, they are in a recruiting nightmare right now with Coach Eric Scott's arrest for burglary this week.

Darrell is originally from Florida so his interest in Florida schools is sincere and the most likely destination at this point. DJ McCarthy only spent one year at ucla and prior to that he was pretty much a Southern region kind of guy (born in the East Coast) so if there's any pull, it's their shared connection via Florida. I hope he does go to LSU. He'd fit in well and he is amazingly fast.

Desmond's film is impressive, he appears lighter in the pants than his profile suggests but runs big like similar to the way LT runs bigger than his frame. He can run inside or out, and has moves and speed...seriously, this kid is EFFING FAST (plays faster than even his 4.45 timed 40 would indicate). I saw his film about a month ago and was surprised he hadn't been offered by anyone ...then I found out about his grades.

He reminds me of a taller version of Trindon Holliday...if anyone can check his video out, do so - he is clearly better than the 2 stars that are attached to his name.

I don't think he'll be headed to FL at all, in his interview from the recent football camp...Rivals asked him about the rumor of him returning to a FL high school to finish his Senior season. He replied with a "I'm definitely NOT going to FL". Knowing that he's lived there before, he might not want to return for any level of school.

Like I said, I hope he ends up at LSU. Florida may not be the place for him although I would say he's made more than a few "interesting" comments to local media/recruiters.

I'd say Cal, UCLA, and LSU is probably the order he's thinking...But until he takes his official visits, its a guessing game. Anything can change, he also said in the interview, that he was wide open. He sounded like a very smart kid, and knows what he's looking for in a school.
