You havent been paying attention. Tennessee hired Lane Kiffin, Monte Kiffin and Ed Orgeron. They did not hire Lane Kiffin on his own. They would never have signed Kiffin without the package deal of Monte and Ogre included.

Dooley's name came up last year when Auburn was looking for a new coach.

He's a good coach. A real good one IMO.

He had LaTech headed in the right direction. Yes, they went 4-8 this year but did you see who they played? 4 of those losses came @ Auburn, @Navy, @LSU and home against Boise. LaTech was competitive in every one of those games.

I actually think he'll do well at Tennessee.

Good for Dooley, now maybe he will show some interest in some very available offensive coaches.

I can see them hiring Lane with Monte as part of the package... but not O. LSU was trying to get O and Tenn beat us out for him. Tenn didn't hire Kiffen to get O.

Also, the NFL Raiders hired Kiffin just because he was Kiffin, no Monte or O involved. Apparently people think he's a great coach, why would it be any less for the people at Tennessee?

Here is what Tennessee great and HOF coach Johnny Majors just said about Kiffin:

I want to make it very clear that I'm not at all critical of Lane Kiffin for taking the USC job. I'm disappointed that he left because I think he's going to get the job done. But I don't have any less respect for him because he left here. These things happen in sports and coaching, and similar things happen in business and the rest of the real world. So I'm surprised, to say the least, but I'm not shocked at his decision. And I don't believe he is to blame for anything.

I'm sure that the players at Tennessee are disappointed, too. I know young people, and I'm sure they had a tremendous amount of confidence in him. But they'll come back around once the new coach comes aboard.
    ...
In Lane's case, he had choices. Tennessee is a great football job and has a great tradition of excellence in football. But there's no question USC is as great a coaching job as there is in the country. All those national championships and Heisman Trophies—you've really got to mess up not to win there. There aren't that many great ones out there, and Lane had to pick between two. That should show what people think of him as a coach.

I've been around him since he took the Tennessee job. I've watched practice, talked to the squad a couple of times, and spent some time in his office. And I believe he is a very good football coach. He's very aggressive and well organized. He's demanding and he and his staff attacked recruiting very aggressively. I always felt that he was excited about rebuilding at Tennessee, and I never got the impression that he wasn't happy. I think he's going to be very, very successful in the long run.

That would be helpful to us, and would probably aid Tech in their conference. It would be a win for both sides. Where can I contribute to this campaign?

On a related note, maybe it's time for Stud to stop working for people and be given "The chance to excel." Again, LSU comes out ahead. I should like to contribute to that campaign also:tigereye:

im pretty sure o was just using lsu to get more money out of tenn. and he got it. so they obviously wanted him. not on his own, but as part of the package. hindsight is thank god they won!

and usc hired kitten to get the package deal of o, monte, chow, and lame. but the chow part fell through. that has been widely reported.

Or, they thought Lane Kiffin was a great up-and-coming coach and that is who they wanted. Think about it, Tenn got rid of Fulmer, and by all reports took all their time and planned it out... and Lane is who they wanted. To get his 69-year old dad? Yeah right. Guy is 69, he'll be done in a few years. And if they wanted his dad, why didn't they just make his dad head coach, wouldn't that have made more sense? As for Tenn or USC hiring Lane to get O, failure as Ole Miss coach? Yeah right. As for USC hiring Lane to get Chow? Yeah right. Getting Lane guaranteed they wouldn't get Chow. They don't like each other. I'm surprised they didn't hire Chow as their HC. But, they wanted Lane, a young hot shot up-and-coming coach. Just like the Raiders wanted him, just like TN wanted him, and just like USC wanted him. Same reason Tenn wants Dooley. They want a young hot-shot who can become their next HOF Coach.

Who did USC hire as their head coach? Lane Kiffin. Not his dad, not O, not Chow. But Lane Kiffin. That's the guy they wanted as their HC.
