Wow. I guess he knows a trainwreck when he sees one. He didn't want to have to step to the podium and say "The San Diego Chargers were who we thought they were".
Probably just didn't want to be the token black guy interviewed. He complained about this rule before.
That's exactly what I thought. He sees the writing on the walls. Now, what do teams do if they try to make their obligatory minority interview, only to be turned down by all invited parties?
Someone at work asked me that today. I'm not sure what the rule is in that case. Maybe find a black guy that lives down your street and interview him?
Ordinarily I would say that may be true. But with the Raiders, I don't think that's the case. Al Davis is the most color blind owner in football. He may be crazy, but he's not a racist OR one that's known for going out of his way with complying with silly NFL rules.
Honestly, if I already knew who I wanted to hire and it wasn't a black guy, I would find some guy on the street and interview him. Then I would say, "sorry NFL this guy wasn't who I wanted to coach my team, but hey I followed your stupid rule" and finally hire the guy I wanted all along.
