Good stuff although I don't know they are lies as much as basic stupidity and ignorance.

"If people want to really blow up one figure here or one word there, I would argue that they're missing the forest for the trees. I think that there's a lot of people more concerned about being precisely, factually, and semantically correct than about being morally right."

Right...because when it comes to Pentagon spending, what's in a figure? The Pentagon budget is all about morals.

"whenever I make a mistake. I say, "OK, this was clumsy." and then I restate what my point was. But it's— it's not the same thing as— as the President lying about immigrants. It's not the same thing, at all"

Lol. Completely misstating and misunderstanding $21 Trillion is her idea of clumsy or "blowing up" one figure? Precisely why somebody like her has no business legislating a facking thing. But the bad man is lying....okie dokie.

I read this article a week or so ago and found myself shaking my head as I did so. While, as you added, this was not done by a hostile foreign power, the tactics were surely borrowed from those of the Russians during the 2016 election. That said, these were disinformation campaigns but nothing was stolen as it was in 2016, or hacked. I disagree with the tactic but I'm afraid we are stuck with it.

I've said for the past 2-3 years that we are living in a post-truth society where the truth is secondary to one's preferred version of the truth. That "preferred" version of the truth is most often served up steaming hot by the voter's preferred media source(s), but more so through their friends on social media who circulate blog posts and rag articles to create an echo chamber. Unfortunately political operatives have picked up on our habits and are manipulating them for their own ends.

I'm afraid that the only cure for it is going to be a more informed electorate with the intellectual curiosity to cross reference their sources before they take the bait and chomp down. That's going to be a hard ask of people who are having to work harder and harder to make ends meet and/or to accomplish their financial goals and my real fear is that these political operatives know this all too well. There are also elements on both far ends of the spectrum who have no interest in knowing the truth and will continue to buy what they are told by their echo chamber hook, line and sinker. We have a few of those around here.....
