An LSU QB makes a horrendous mistake and gives Auburn a substantial lead (see Perrilloux fumble leading to an easy Auburn score) at the half. LSU's defense plays lights out from the middle of the 2nd quarter on to get LSU back in the game. The LSU offense finally gets on track in the 2nd half. LSU finally gets the lead only to see Auburn mount an impressive drive midway though the 4th quarter against a fairly well rested LSU defense, surprisingly to anyone rooting on the purple and gold. LSU takes the ball back, drives it down like it's nobody's business and appears to be set up perfectly for a game winning FG with little or no time left on the clock. LSU stuns the Auburn defense as well as most of the western world by being aggressive and going for the touchdown instead. The Mad Hatter lives. Auburn fans are sad.
I like the storyline, but I don't get the part about "LSU stuns the Auburn defense as well as most of the western world by being aggressive and going for the touchdown instead". There was mucho time on the clock. The throw was to the 12 yard line...unlike the description from the ESPN announcers, who said they threw it in the endzone. It was too early to kick a FG, but you take the TD when you can get it. I didn't think THAT was the "stunning play". Now, the HB pass from KW? There's your stunner.:thumb:
Well I surely was thinking let's run this ball on first down to run some clock off. Then possibly on 2nd we can go for the jugular when you have them thinking 3 straight running plays. It shocked me we would be so aggressive at that point. I know I should be used to Crowton's style by now. It caught me off guard.
Very nice recap:thumb: but I think the biggest thing of the night is the dramatic 180 turnaround of a struggling and young QB in the face of extreme adversity.
And even though it didn't amount to points, it gave us field position advantage throughout much of the 2nd half.
Something about those half time chats that brings the Tigers out an awesome second half team. In that I had little fear at the half that we were set up for a second half melt down. Coaches did themselves well tonight.
A friend of mine, who is a Florida Gator alum, was watching the game with me and alluded to the fact that when Holly Rowe is on the sidelines, it always ends in an Auburn loss. I am sure Auburn fans could probably chime in on that. My friend also said the game wasn't over at the half, and that Tubby would "screw it up". He also called for a shanked punt by Auburn at the end. I will attempt to watch the rest of the LSU games with him. Have no fear.
