Ok, every knows me as the hoops recruiting (mens anyway) guy, but after the insane weekend of BCS madness, on this board we can return to obsessing over FB recruiting as we wait for the bowl madness...

So, to the pigskin gurus of recruiting like CParso and others, I wanted to start this thread just to consolidate the latest thoughts, hottest targets, and most critical needs for Miles to close on down the stretch.

Here is what I know. 20 commitments, with some 6 or so schollies left to fill. Alot of grief so far over the relative "star power" of the current signees. We obviously roll into these recruiting weeks with an amazing intro... SEC Champs:champs: , playing for NC :crystal: , Miles is here to stay :milesmic: and it seems anyway that Crowton will be too. So, here is the discussion points:

    1. Who are our hottest targets right now?
    2. What are our chances of landing them, now? If we land them, where do folks think our overall class will end up nationally?
    3. Assume that our class won't be a top 5 (I don't know this for sure, but assume so). Given that Miles is still playing for the NC with the famous 2003 pre-Miles class  , do the recruiting pundits really feel with the last few two years of Miles recruits, we're going to have the sustainability of SECC/NC caliber talent? Obviously, the future is bright with the likes of Perriloux, Holiday, Woods, Byrd and others, but some of our other prospects, haven't necessarily stepped up big consistently.
    4. Lastly, who the hell is recruiting our defensive players now, and what's the inside scoop on our defensive recruiting gameplan now that Pelini is out?

    Thanks... Now please discuss.

Defensive side is most important. We need lock down DB's, and DL deepth. We are pretty set with LB, but could always use a Aurthur Brown.

1 - Patrick Johnson DB - very high on our list
    2 - DeAndre Brown WR
    3 - Justin Thompson DL
    4 - Chase Clement DE
    5 - Robby Green DB
    6 - Tyler Edwards TE

Dark Horses - Darrell Scott RB and Aurthur Brown LB

I see Rivals is showing the Thomas Kid from Texas as no longer committed to LSU? Wasn 't he a three/four star quarterback/Ath?

Yes we do need a dl and cornerback , We are also in dire need of a strong 240 lb. middle linebacker who can stuff the run.

    I wouldn't say we're "set" at LB.

this is my #1 for us to get

we can always get great skill players, but to get a stud O-lineman, that's special, something I can't remember LSU ever being able to do

This has always been my sentiments exactly. We rarely get the top rated O-linemen because there just aren't enough in LA. Often we must go out of state to fill the void and sometimes all the way to Canada. When the right side of your starting line consists of former defensive lineman recently switched because of need IMO, you know we are not traditionally deep there. It looks like Jarvis will be the favorite to start next year. So we would have 2 Texas boys at end, Herman a LA to Texas guy at LG, Helms from Arky--I believe, at center and only Hitt from LA. Barksdale from Michigan was switched to the OL and hopefully will contribute. Earnest McCoy from FLA I think....well I think we made our point.:yelwink2:

Darron Thomas, 4 star ATH (QB/WR - most likely a WR here), has decommitted, but its one of those situations that our coaches didn't mind seeing him go.

Sonny has said that the most likely deferral of our other current commits would be another 4 star ATH (WR/Safety) - DeAngelo Peterson. He's still ours at the moment, but he may not be with our class on signing day.

I haven't seen Mike or Sonny do a break-down of our remaining needs in quite a while, so this is a guess by me.

One or two more Dline. One more CB. One more OLine. Two to three more WR's (not counting Benton who I count as a commit). One TE.

At the top of our board at these positions: Chase Clement (DE), Benay Pryer (DE), Justin or Brandon Thompson (DT). Patrick Johnson or TJ Bryant at CB. Matt Patchan or Zebrie Sanders at OLine. Chris Tolliver, DeAndre Brown, Sedrick Johnson among others at WR.
