I was furious on the 3rd down blitz by PP. But I had to tell myself that I would have thought it was brilliant if it had worked... Sometimes the two are so close and as a fan you have to take a step back. NC coaches and players did a great job in the second half, they played their hearts out. I think the turnovers really affected the game in the second half and it tainted the entire second half as horrible. Turnovers will do that.
It doesn't really bother me if we blitz PP from time to time. The only problem is that it leaves room for WR's to make a big name for themselves. It won't happen every time, but when it does it isn't pretty. I also don't like zone defense, which we were in the third and fourth quarters of that game. I'd rather man up, but the line betwen blown coverage and secondary players that never played before making mental mistakes is a thin one. I am glad about the rushing yardage allowed. If this was a normal week where everyone was playing a tough game, that stat would have stood out and been discussed with appreciation. Since it wasn't, and we allowed over 400 yards through the air, we got laughed at. It happens, especially when just about everyone else is playing a chump that week. Sure, there's work to be done. But there is enough positive things going on to make me believe that it will only get better. And could someone lend me a pump for the sunshine? Mine broke over the weekend. Thanx!
You could say that about anything. Rather than fumbling, if Ridley would have taken that last carry to the house, after not just picking up the first down, we would have beat them by 37-24, which would have looked a lot better on paper and made it a lot easier to forgive him. But it didn't happen. If I am not mistaken, the Vandy coach went for 2 point conversions twice when he didn't need to, and eventually lost by 2 points. Had he gotten one of them, he would have been a genius to some, but in really it was just dumb. Peterson might have 4.3 speed, but he is a rare shutdown corner. Sure, a blitz every now and then is okay, but when you take him from where he is best to put him where he is decent, we suffer. You don't see Revis or Champ Bailey blitzing very much. They are way too vital to the pass defense. Jefferson may be 6'5", but you don't put him at WR because he's taller than 99% of CBs.
A couple of Alabama quarterbacks are still hurting from Leon Landry safety blitzes. It works sometimes and Chavis has to keep OC's guessing.
:geaux: LOL! :hihi: Actually, this is a concern. Jai has not been impressive in his LSU career so far. Hoping he's a late bloomer, but sooner rather than later. :LSU231:
