I like Chavis, but IMO yesterday against AU was not his best day.

When we allow over 400 yards rushing, why do we still have 2 deep safeties well into the 4th quarter? We were outnumbered and outmanned up front all day, and Chavis didn't adjust.

They got us in the second half. I think the O must take some blame. First 5 series in the second half were 4 3 and outs and one 5 play series. I think the D was gassed having to chase down that freak of a QB that Auburn has for 3 quarters.

PS: IMO: without CM Auburn is no better than an average football team.

By the way: what was TOP?

For sure -- the D was gassed and that 70 yard run sealed the deal.

Auburn had the TOP edge -- 32:13 to 27:47 according to lsusports.net. It looked somewhat promising on our first drive that we could control the clock; unfortunately too many 3 and outs in the 2nd half sealed our fate.

Re CM -- If he wins the Heisman (and even if he doesn't), I would say it's highly likely he's off to the NFL. Let's see how good Auburn is next year without him.

I think its highly unlikely he is going to the NFL. He's not ready to go as a QB and the NFL wont take him as one unless he turns into a proven throwing machine over the next 4 or 5 games. Thats not going to happen. Another, and possibly more important reason, is the lack of a CBA and the likelihood no agreement will be in place before underclassman must declare. It will probably impact Pat Pete too.

actually i thought the plan was fine.

10 pts in the first half. i would've taken that deal before the game.

the problem was with missing tackles. if we didn't execute against this offense we weren't going to win.

the other side of that is that the O couldn't sustain drives (surprise) and this eventually wore down the D for that killshot run in the 4th.

i have no problem with the way chavis coached this. he somehow allowed 24 pts when his team should've allowed 42.

edit: coaches can only do so much and eventually have to yield to players making plays.
using the super bowl or last year's patriots game as an example, what D and coach was going to stop brees??

sometimes players have special days and newton had one against us.

Defense was the key reason we lost yesterday. We knew we did not have a great offense, but our defense is among the best in the nation. Yesterday it was not. The defense yesterday was god awful. So many missed tackles, failure to cover receivers and failure to pressure the QB. There was clearly a let down. We had better get the defense back on track for the Bama game in a couple of weeks.

i'm going to have to respectfully disagree. if you would've said AU would score 24 pts this game i would've thought we could win it.

you have to be able to score more than two TD's to even be in the same conversation about beating a team with AU's offense.

a capable offense wins that game yesterday.

Absolutely, 100% correct. That loss is on the offense.

How about we compromise and say it's on both the offense and the defense.

I agree that holding them to 24 points was not bad. However allowing over 400 yards rushing and making no adjustments was stupid IMO. Why have 2 deep safeties when they are running 90% of the time? We were defending like we were playing Peyton Manning and we got Tim Tebow running it down our throats. With the athletes we have and the secondary we have, we should have been much more aggressive IMO. Maybe Newton could have beaten us throwing the ball, but allowing him to run it on us while we sat back in essentially a Prevent Defense was flat out stupid.

Absolutely spot on. Our defense did what it had to do yesterday, opened with a 3&Out against the vaunted Bird-Tigger offense, and then JJ gives them the ball back. Our ST pinned them inside their 5 several times, and the second half our defense did well getting them off the field... this loss falls soley on the offense and crowton.

GC should be tied to a goal post and fans should be allowed to buy $10 tickets to poke him with a stick. Maybe he'll wise up afterwards.
