Saturday, 11/09/13 at Bryant-Denny Stadium, Tuscaloosa, AL and once again the visiting team wins. Any other questions?
He would probably have a case too....similar scenario in the we barely beat them in their place and they blew a bunch of opportunities, except there's that Florida thingy hanging out there.....
Don't get me wrong, I'm very happy with the win vs Miss State tonight. We got bailed out by Loston on the pick 6; MSU really gashed our secondary tonight, and even though the trend of a late TD ended, we're still letting up way too many yards. I hope the Chief corrects this.
It looked like we didn't blitz all night. Looked like we played zone all night except Tharold Simon. Their receivers found the holes in the zone and the qb hit em.
If I am interpreting everything correctly then this is what done of you are saying: 1. Miles only deserves the blame when a play doesn't work, all out the successful plays and game planning on offense are credited to others and Les only gets credited with not giving his input. 2. He was wrong for not giving his input our overruling Chavis though on the last drive. 3. Miles should only be blamed for the things that go wrong, never given credit for anything that goes right.
I don't think that LSU had defensive breakdowns in the last two games, it's just that our prevent defense is flawed. It succeeds well in its purpose of preventing the big-play crucial touchdown. But it is too soft against the short-to-middle passes. It allows a poised quarterback to move methodically down the field and get in range to make something happen that is not a desperation heave. Against Bama it was further flawed as it allowed them to complete sideline passes and stop the clock. They guarded the sideline routes better against State, but still gave receivers a lot of space underneath. Our defensive backs are very talented but each of them has been beaten this season by good quarterbacks, especially the two freshmen. Chavis must find a way to fix this. We must have a prevent defense, but it must be aggressive enough to make the middle-range passes tougher.
Chavis isn't concerned with yards given up. He has a proven system. Execution is the key. We have up 400 yards passing to WVU and drummed them last year.
I've never seen a prevent defense that didn't function like this. The prevent is only good for preventing a 40+ yard play. Anything less will be successful. Therefore, it should only be used when only a 40+ yard touchdown will beat you.
