I agree with Mr. B. The decision to run on third down and let the clock wind down was the smart call, esp considering the D had dominated Bama the entire 2nd half. That left Bama with 90 secs to go 76 yards with no timeouts. This D should have held them. It was the prevent that lost the game.
thats bullshit, offensive play calling lost the game, he put our defense in the position. Of course you go prevent in that situation, what team doesn't try to keep the ball in front of them in the middle of the field. You dont go wildcat against Bama's defense when we lined up all night and Hill ran it down their throats. Its inconceivable to put the game in the hands of a kicker that has been inconsistent at best all night. We killed them on 3rd down all night. Line up and run it or throw it with Mett under center.
Wrong.....Les turned over the game to the best part of his football team...the defense, bama had to go 76 yards with 1:34 left and no timeouts, absaloutley the right call, the only problem I saw, it was not a prevent Defense it was a soft zone, we should have played zone, but with bump and run coverage, take away the out routes because they had no timeouts. That meant more times than not they would have to work the sidelines, they could have thrown to the middle of the field no more that twice. The screen call is what killed us....we had an all out blitz on at that point, great play call by bama's offense at that point killed us.
Les turned the game over to conservative and dumb play calling on the last drive. Then to a kicker who isnt that good. If you dont see that then I really dont know what to tell you. You play to win, simple as that, go with what is working. 3rd down we worked Bama over all game. Then we get tricky. The slant to Landry, the toss play to Hill, worked all game on 3rd down. If you dont think that drive had the biggest impact on the game, well simply you are crazy.
Why try a FG to go up 6 with an average at best kicker and give the ball back to Bama??? Go for the first down and if you get it then that's the ballgame stupid fu$kin call!!! All falls back on Miles IMO.
Because he wanted to make Bama have to score a TD to tie or beat them and not just rely on OT. Once again he turned it over to the stregnth of his team his defense. 6 ahead or 3 ahead is a big difference, field goal TD which one would you rather the opposing team have to score on your #2 rated defense in the country, and that FG was VERY makable, should have been made, now the 52 yarder, that's one he should have punted.
We may have had a chance if not for the Florida loss, especially if Oregon, Notre Dame and Kansas St all drop one.
