While much of the focus is rightly on the inexplicable fake FG and actual FG decisions, something tha'ts flown a bit under the radar is our defense giving up quick scores at the end of games and giving teams openings. Happened against South Carolina and A&M, and it finally cost us against Bama.

    Anyway, discuss.

Chavis has a history doing this and was a big reason many had err, reservations with the chief. 3rd and chavis is his nickname for a reason.

Plenty of focus has been on ths. It's just not the glaring f up in this game.

THat wasnt a player breakdown, that was all about the scheme. LSU coaches botched this game. LSU was dominating the Bama O. Instead they go uber conservative giving Bama WRs huge cushions. When you play super conservative you deserve to lose. This loss is all on the coaches. THe players clearly outplayed Bama. Saban looked for TDs and Miles for FGs.

Lack of execution during the last part of the 4th quarter in all 3 phases of the game cost us.

    • Our heralded stable of running backs could not eek out one more 1st down when it counted
    • Alleman's last FG miss was crucial - had he made it, it would have put an emotional stake in the heart of Alabama and most likely pinned them further back on the ensuing kickoff
    • Our defense looked like it switched to prevent and failed to stop Bama one more time when it counted

Our running backs played amazing against a team that only allowed 50 yards a game. Can't put shit on them, Bama has a great run defense, give them credit.
Alleman .... no clue what is with him this year, he's been shakey. Just like I blamed Saban last year for attempting field goals that were too far, Les takes the blame for putting him in a bad situation
Prevent D prevented us from winning, what it's best at doing. Hopefully Chavis realizes this now.

I disagree. It was third and long, Miles was clearly playing for the FG. You have to try to throw at that time. LSU was throwing the ball well, converting on numerous key third downs. We get the first and that pretty much ices the game you can run out the clock. Instead they try to play for a long FG with an inconsistent kicker. That was gutless and conservative.

As for the D. Yes there was a lack of execution at the end. Still in all LSU was dominating Bama with an aggressive D in the second half. Instead they back off with a stupid prevent D. Once again another poor coaching move. The coaches loss this game.

I put it more on Miles because ultimately he is the HC and should have put a stop to the prevent when they had the first two completions. Also because LSU was throwing the ball so well and he played for a long FG with an inconsistent kicker. We get the first the game is pretty much over. If not, then you kick the FG or try a pooch punt.

Miles played it almost text book at the end and he did what 99.9% of all coaches would do. You set it up dead center for your kicker put 3 on the board and then eat up more clock on the kickoff and with luck you pin them back and don't give up a Touchdown. Kicker screwed the pooch badly and then the defense went to prevent and gave Bama new life. You all are dreaming if you think most coaches would have gone for it on 4th down in that spot at that time of the game.

If he went for it and failed with the outcome the same you all would have crucified him or any coach for that matter not taking the what should have been sure 3 and kicking a squib kick or something.

Damned if you do and Damned if ya don't.
