The line has actually been better than expected though. Godchaux is a stud, Neal is playing really well too. I didn't see Bower tonight. I think for as thin as it is, the line has played ok, but they must get better defending the run.
Because he couldn't be any worse than the jackhole in the booth now?? With technique and execution, why not? He's turned shit to sugar before with LB's. So yeah, without kwon and nothing in the pipe, improvement from not much left should be easy to ask from a LB guru.
And it's like Steele is some seasoned DC to him. He's been a DC twice and both stints his defenses weren't any good. He is a supposed linebacker guru because he benefited from those beasts Saban had at Alabama. The Hightowers and McClains. Dude is shit. Between him and Peveto we have 2 shitty fucking coaches and it shows.
Nah, can definitely criticize. My take on that game was we wanted to focus on the passing game, but not let the game get out of control if they were close. That dictated a bit more run than planned. If BH takes a little mustard off of some of those balls, drops dimes into a sprinting WR rather than laser beams w/a defender near 'em, his completion % would have been much higher. Dural simply dropped a few, and hesitated his route on a few that if he just kept running, he would have run under the ball and hopefully caught them. But, I wasn't nearly as frustrated w/playcalling or the offense overall as I was against MSU where we completely quit trying to pass the ball. We tried last night, it was more of an execution thing - combo of BH being a bit off, and humming the ball too much, and that may have thrown off the WRs who ended up missing some that they should have caught. The D was more concerning to me, at least on a 2 of their scoring drives. But, I don't think we throw Steele under the bus yet. While we have talent, we are thin in depth. The def. coaches inherited these guys, and it's still a work in progress. I suspect both sides of the ball will look much better against the tougher competition. That is a hallmark of CLM teams. At least STs was a wee bit better last night, but still sucked overall, and certainly not the STs of old, ala 2011.
Kickers looked mostly good (B+), punter wasn't bad (B), returns and coverage get a C and D, respectively. Passing game gets an F. Defense gets a C- (stiffened a couple times when needed). Running game gets an A+. Coaching gets a C, at least they tried to work on the pass, but it shouldn't be this bad. Defense was sloppy (C-), special teams had a lot of ugly play (D).
The D needs a lot of improvement. I think a lot of it schemes and then the lack of adjustments. Often times teams may have put up a great drive or two early on Chavis but he would make adjustments. I see no adjustments from Steele, it's the same shit all the damn time. I like his aggressiveness over Chavis but I wonder now if as a whole Chavis was better. The DL has certainly improved, I think a lot of it is the elite talent we use to seeing at LSU on the DL just isn't here right now. Key has talent but is young. Godchaux has looked good. LaCouture is a solid player but probably a second stringer. LSU has not done well with talent evaluations the previous few years. Same with LB's. The biggest thing I think is mixing up schemes. We have to do a better job of controlling the LOS on both sides. No way should a LSU OL or DL not consistently blow an Eastern Mich line off scrimmage. The OL finally wore them out late in the game.
