defense should be good, with the exception of linebacker depth. that scares me.

So someone please explain this to me. Did Sione Teahuma (spelling?) get moved to linebacker or something? Because I just read that Bower has been out and Arden Key is getting his reps. How in the hell did Key pass Teahuma when he has been on the team for like a month? Sione was a beast last year when he was on the field. Anyone in the know know what's up?

Tashawn Bower is slated to start at one defensive end spot opposite of Lewis Neal, but the junior from New Jersey missed his second straight day of practice on Monday.

Les Miles did not provide any specifics on why Bower has missed the last two days but he did say that he expects him back soon.

In Bower’s absence, true freshman Arden Key has received reps with the first unit.

The 6-foot-6, 231-pound Key has been impressive since he reported to campus last Wednesday and is expected to play a significant role in 2015.

Right so what the fuck? How does Key already pass Teahuma when he was basically the best pass rusher we had last year and Key hasn't been with the team for over a month? That makes no sense to me unless they plan on using Sione as an outside backer. We do need depth there, wouldn't be a bad move...

The D will use a 3, 4 or 5 man front at times. I kind of like the 4-2-5, with us having better DB's. The Safeties Mills, Adams and Jefferson make up a great bunch of guys. The best D is to get your best 11 on the field. Some teams use a Rover, Spur (USCE), KAT (Rice), etc. Down and distance will come into play. We need to do a better job of taking away what a offense does, we need to limit what they can do.

I wouldn't put too much into who's getting reps or which session they're in this early. The coaches will be looking at a lot of players seeing what they have to offer. However LSU is loaded with talented players. I wouldn't be surprised to see a lot of movement on the depth chart, but I'm not sure anyone has passed anyone else at this point. Plus if a freshman is going to contribute early he will need all the reps he can get.

Most articles I've read seem to point to a heat related injury for Bowers absence.

I hope this means that we'll see fewer players getting stupid personal foul penalties and refraining from jawing off opponents.
