regardless of what the two clowns (DC)happen to do.

    Here's why.

    1. All Linebackers (except Beckwith, who has about one more tackle then me) and Secondary come back. Add to that Ryan Baker and hopefully the number one rated Safety in the Country.

    2. We lose a lot in the Defensive Line, but really, the best of the line is coming back, Rahim Alem. Tyson Jackson was WAY overrated. Favorite has been a bust. Alexander has more injuries then tackles. T. Johnson hasn't done anything this year. So, really alll that we are losing is "newspaper clipping" people. Hopefully, Nevis will do something next year and Davenport can come in ready to play. Not to mention the Juco DL we got recently.

0ne thing for sure LSU has to hire a real DC for next year. Imean a well known one . Hell spend some money and get Dick Bumpas from TCU. That man can coach a defense. Or Gary Anderson from Utah, Nick Holt from USC . I know people will think I am crazy but Tenn defense was better than ours this year and John Chavis will be looking for a job next year if he doesn't get the head job a Tenn.

God I hope you are right!!! I have been discouraged by the QB and offense this year but...mostly dissapointed by the defensive play. Getting pushed around and embarrassed in Tiger stadium is unacceptable. I hope that Miles hires a real DC in the offseason. I also hope that this DC will incorporate some dicipline into this group. There was way too much s&!t talking and cockiness/ celebrating after a decent plaw when the team is down by 2-4 touchdowns. I live in Texas but bleed purple & gold and always will but watching a team get taken apart and have the gaul to celebrate is downright embarrassing.

I know this defense has plenty of talent. I just think they need to be properly coached and taught some dicipline. It wouldn't hurt to spend some extra time on tackling drills as well.

I think the 2 DC's were coaching their old positions as well. Think they got spread too thin. At least with 1 DC, only one would have been spread too thin. Maybe trying to do too many things, they didn't do a great job of any of them. Hiring a great DC focused just on that, with the assistants focused just on their players and developing them, just may work better. I think there is a lesson in here somewhere... :geaux:

So, with your logic here, everyone who is leaving was overrated, but all of the upcoming players are rated well, therefore, they will do well. Potential does not equal field performance, and one bad year with poor coaching schemes does not mean TJackson or DBeckwith were overrated. DBeckwith was hurt and came back sooner than most thought, and TJ was playing w/o you know who next to him, so he was double teamed a lot more.

The coaching and youth at def. back are the reasons the defense sucked this year, and actually got worse as the season progressed. I salute the players themselves for giving all of their effort and hard work, something we can all just sit on the sideline and complain about.

Yes, The D Line was rated the BEST IN THE COUNTRY in the preseason. They are not in the top half of the SEC - WEST -. Therefore, they are OVERRATED.

Our best player on defense this year was a Freshman, Patrick Peterson, with Alem next.

I expect a 5 star DL to start as well as a 5 star Safety. The Seniors on Defense have done absolutely nothing except "clinch" with an offensive Lineman until the ref blows his whistle to end the play.

Our Linebackers and Safeties feverishly streak back and forth, falling here and there, looking more like children on a brand new Slip and Slide.

Kriston Pittman has been here for YEARS and is still running around in circles.

Yes, the Coaching is bad, but even when your man dominates you physically, there's nothing a Coach can do. Especially, the clowns we have coaching now.

A new defensive coaching staff will be the primary reason we improve. However, we won't be as young next year either.

Only 2 things concern me about our defense next year: DLine depth & LB assignments. If our LB's improve & some of our young guys on the DL develop - our defense will be lights out next year.

It's looking like McCray will take over FS right now while Jones stays in his current "rover" role, and Phelon Jones takes over at nickel-back. This change alone will be a big, big boost. I assume Cutrera will take over at MLB, which will be good influence on a mistake-prone LB corp.

I think the bigger reason for such disappointments this season was the fact we all knew our Offense was going to sputter... but expected our D to pick up the slack and keep us in games.
Well our Offense has made it a profession of going 3 and out this year... so that puts our D on the field longer then their used to being out there. Our D is well disciplined and conditioned... but can't expect guys who are exhausted to perform well.
We could have the nastiest lights out Defense in the country next year... but if our Offense can not sustain drives and help keep our D off the field and rested... we'll see more of the same.

I hope your right CParco but after this season I'm gonna have to see it on the field before I get excited again.. What I will never understand is how a team like Troy can eat up our passive defensive scheme & we come back the next week with the same scheme. Thats just bad coaching to me.

Looks like there is no disagreement among fans that there has got to be a serious shakeup of the defense coaching staff; the Ole Miss game was the final straw..........
