Finally someone has spoken the truth about Urban Meyer, Florida cheats so much in recruting and when the kids go there they want to leave, like Deonte Thompson, which they stole from LSU last year.
Absolutely. "Insiders" have continually said that our coaching staff does not feel that this is a down year in talent for Louisiana at all. Rivals really hasn't evaluated a lot of our guys very well. When one of their scouts went to the La state championship game he was saying that several guys should all be 4 stars.
:geaux: :crystal: :helmet: Agreed. The "star system" isn't all it's cracked up to be. Let's face it, are the "guru's" at these recruiting services better at evaluating talent than the coaching staff's? I think not. Still, the thing that has me the most concerned/frustrated is how a lot of our top talent in-state is seriously considering going to other schools when LSU has offered. That's something I don't understand. I could understand if there was no scholarship available and there was no room for them. If I were T. Edwards or Tolliver I would have committed months ago because I bleed purple and gold. Maybe they don't, although I would have figured Tyler Edwards did. If you're from La., why would you want to think about going to Alabama when LSU offered you months ago?:LSU231: :geauxtige :champs:
Another thing is its not easy to rate players. Think of how many high school football players there are in the country. Its not easy task. Its easy to get caught up in the "how many stars" does a kid have. We all do from time to time. Fact is though with it being so difficult to rank kids properly some players will fall through the cracks for whatever reason. Some guys dont fit the mold for a prototype player but grow into in college. Some kids lack good coaching, etc. Like you said, our coaches do a great job at evaluating talent. A lot of our top players were lower ranked players.
I have a question about that Rivals scout that was there for the state championships... if he felt a lot of the players should be 4 stars, then um why aren't they? Isn't he a SCOUT and should be telling Rivals to rate these players higher? Also, please don't call them kids. They're 18 and can fight in a war. They are far from 'kids'
They are kids, the problem is they shouldn't be able to be sent off to fight in a war but to answer your question- those services have many "Scouts" and the star ratings are a result of cumulative analysis. Further, there are only so many 4 star allotments, if I'm not mistaken.
Scout.com moved Ryan Baker up to 4 stars, I just checked it. Also, we lost on Justin Thompson, he committed to Oregon, i dont know if thats news to anyone. But oh well. have fun there he only has 2 years left. So i can understand why he would go to Oregon, he is going to play right away. With 2 years left I dont know how much time he would get on the field in BR
I think it comes down to playing time for many recruits these days. In the good ole days, top recruits would go to one of the big schools to get a chance to play on tv, win championships, improve their chances of getting to the NFL, etc., even if they had to ride the bench the first 2 years. That's no longer the case. Almost every game is on tv now and you have schools like Rutgers, WVU, Mizzou, Kansas, etc., competing for conference championships and getting national exposure. It is getting harder and harder to convince these recruits to redshirt and/or sit the bench for a year or two. They have many more choices these days to showcase their talent. Just look at RP and all his comments he made when he came out of high school. He really thought he had a chance to come in and compete for the starting job. I wonder if he would have made the same decision if he knew he had to ride the bench for 3 years. We'll never know, but I think that thought process is out there for these recruits.
:geaux: :crystal: :helmet: Good points and I pretty much agree. Guess many times the grass looks greener, etc. and so forth. Also, as stated in previous posts, these guys are treated like celebs and want to ride it for all it's worth, although it's a serious waste of time, effort, money, etc if they already know where they want to go. This would apply to the "secret commits" everyone hears about. Why keep it secret? If you want to commit to a school, say so and mean it! To me that shows character. If you say you commit but I want to take other visits, what the purpose in that? Also, they may get promised early playing time, but only time will tell if it happens. All kind of factors play in to that. Guess I don't understand why a La. kid could even think of playing anywhere else but Tiger Stadium on a Saturday night. It don't get any better than that!!!!:LSU231: :geauxtige :champs:
