I am satisified with Miles & his wins. I mentioned in this post & a previous post that with over 30 wins in three years and being in the championship game I am totally satisified with the on field success. I know that the feeling is that Louisiana HS talent is down this year so we have to go regional & national. My point is this.. Our position is never gonna be better. Our leverage is never gonna be better.. If we can't recruit nationally this year we never will.. Losing a recruit to USC or Florida or Ohio State is understandable - but Oregon, Miami, Alabama, that worries me. If Arthur Brown goes to Miami that will mean that we were out recruited by a Losing team while we are at the peak of exposure & success. To me that just don't add up. Just a pessimist by nature can't help myself. To many disappointments under Curley, Mike & Jerry I guess.. :geaux: If your not gaining your losing ground!! Maybe I just can't handle success... I will try harder... :milesmic:

We don't need or want to recruit nationally. We've got all the talent we need in our traditional recruiting areas.

Those programs are selling prospects on early playing time, which they can do because their teams are struggling right now. LSU cannot do that because we've built up such incredible depth & every school is out there negative recruiting against us by making sure they see that.

I am so confused... I thought we were one of the big boys who recruited nationally. Arthur Brown is from Kansas, Brendon Beal - Pa., Patrick Johnston Miami Florida, Shayne Hale - Pa, Justin Thompson - California, Stacey McGee - Ok, Darrell Scott - California, Deion Walker - Virginia.. These guys were all offered by LSU according to Scout. We don't need or want to recruit nationally?? LSU may have just sent them a offer & left it up to them but with them all being 4-5 star kids I suspect we would have taken them if possible.. Hey, maybe your right, I just thought with local talent being thin LSU would naturally expand the base a bit.

No matter what you cant make a kid come to LSU. We are home grown, die hard fans. Kids are now seeing the success at LSU and the good times BR can give. LSU has never been a national recruiting power like Florida, USC, OSU, Michigan, Oklahoma, and Notre Dame. You cant blame those kids for chosing the aforementioned schools over LSU because they are more traditional powers.

LSU is establishing itself as a national power more recently. LSU will control Louisiana for most of its recruits. Every year LSU will get some named recruits from Texas and Florida. As well as Ms and Alabama. LSU is just starting to get more serious consideration from top recruits from other states.

To name a few big recruits that LSU recruited from out of state just last year:
Toliver, Barksdale, Lee, Jones, Brooks, etc were all considered very promising prospects and all are from out of state. So we are recruiting well out of state. Remains to be seen if we can get any major 4-5 star players this year, but LSU is becoming a big national recruiting school. Give it time, at least next year we have a ton of big time instate talent.

I think Cparso and bandit bring strong points to the table.

And believe me, I am one of those wondering what the hell is going on, much like Callender.

Might be time to just breathe deep. For sanity's sake.

You can't get everyone every year is basically what it boils down to. Couple a down year in Louisiana with LSU missing out on some of the bigger names in the country and you've got a class that isn't what we're used to lately.

Nothing to panic over. Miles has shown that hes a good recruiter, and Louisiana is going to be completely loaded next year, which means good things are on the way.

Dont get me wrong, its frustrating to see some many top stars pick USC, Florida, ND, etc over LSU. As a fan we cant fathom why, but those are all very good schools. With better tradition than LSU. Hopefully we can win that title this year and bring more tradition here. LSU is here to stay as a power, we have the talent in place. Miles is staying which brings security which was a major concern. If we bring in Johnson, Brown, Patchan, or Bryant that makes a huge improvement to this class.

Another thing to consider is LSU recruits a lot of underrated players. The high 4-5 stars dont always turn out as good a lower rated stars.

    Jacob Hester = 2 stars

Just goes to show you, you bring in great kids of character who want to work hard with some level of skill and hone in on what they do best and put them in positions to succeed, you get Jacob Hester (offensive MVP of 2007, hands down)

I guess nobody likes rejection but guess what, kids also decommit (USC had 2 just this week) or transfer (we had 2 this season). The decision they make is about them, not about the school per se (unless it's a legacy). It's usually about getting to the NFL, being on TV every Saturday, playing with and against the best, coaches with experience and results, playing time, depth chart, location, etc.

Personally, I think CUM gets away with so much chit that I'd rather see top talent go just about anywhere but Florida. He was pretty much THE reason why the NCAA put brakes on texting recruits. USC asked that UF be investigated for tampering with 2 players including Emanual Moody who is there now. Strangely enough the coach brought in last year from SoCal to run football operations and help establish a SoCal pipeline has suddenly decided to return to California. UMeyer also had Pastor Tebow get involved with James Wilson last year and he ended up making a last minute decision to decommit from USC and go to Florida. Again though, it's about them, not the school so I don't take it personally and keep in mind they are teenagers.

I expect to see Shannon and UM making a serious run for top recruits in the coming years.
