    From WR for the Spring.

    Thoughts?

He was recruited as an athlete. His HS Coach even said that he could bulk up & become a DE. He was a Dwayne Bowe-type WR who the coaches were high on there a year ago.

Miles has said that he needs to add weight & develop his physicality for TE.

IMO, he'll be our next great receiving TE once Dickson graduates.

Hard to see him bulking up to TE size quickly.

I was about to ask someone on the board to apply their own logic to this position move. I guess Im still not understanding it. He didnt redshirt last year and now he moves to TE, behind a great TE in Dickson. Maybe Miles feels like the other Tight Ends are not great receivers?

TEs aren't that big anymore especially in today's playcalling and are very effective a la Gresham who recruited who was a receiver mostly in high school, C.Ingram and Dickerson isnt that big himself either. I could see the move being very effective and he'll be more of the athletic pass catching TE.

I guess they didn't redshirt him because they thought he would contribute at WR right away and have changed their opinion. I agree that it seems like they blew a year of his eligibility. He is only listed as 190 lbs. Could he have put on a lot more weight recently? Can anyone give his current size? I was really shocked by this turn of events and it does not bode well for Peterson IMO.

No way Peterson is 190 still. And he didn't redshirt because he's a great athlete & proved himself on special teams.

IMO, our WR depth this year with the development of Molton had something to do with it, but it was primarily the lack of a receiving TE behind Dickson. Peterson will learn & develop at the position this year, and be a beast in 2010.

We are recruiting TEs this year, blocking and receiving, but those guys will take a couple of years to step in. Peterson should bridge the gap between golden hands #18, and our current TE recruits.

I think he will do fine.

They aren't tackle-size anymore, but the average tight end in Les' four years at LSU averages 6-4 and 248 pounds. 58 pounds of muscle is hard to put on in one year.

    Dickson is 246 pounds.

If he can bulk up and develop as a blocker I think this would be a great move. This gives the offense that much versatility as you have a player that can run block, pass block, run short routes over the middle or motion out as a WR. All without changing personnel and out of the same formation. Not to mention the miss matches this will create with LBs trying to cover him.

Sheesh, impossible without substance abuse. A top notch athlete, genetically predisposed, with an equally exceptional work ethic can add maybe 20-25 pounds of muscle in a year, and that may be pushing it. Mere mortals like me are doing good to add 5 pounds in 6 months.
