You're brilliant! So a fat DL decommits from us in the 2022 class yet that class is still rated #1 in the SEC and #3 in the nation. Once we get our DC you actually think we won't replace Washington with someone else or have him recommit?
For you guys hyperventilating over not having a DC yet Texas and Arizona State just hired their DC's yesterday. Get a grip guys Freeman and Nielsen were the top 2 DC candidates in college football missing on them is not odd. Both had very good reasons for doing what they did. They were interested enough to interview for the job and I notice Freeman didn't interview other than us and Notre Dame. Freeman could have went anywhere but didn't want to uproot his family. Nielsen was coming but the Saints wisely promoted the hell out of him to keep him. Nielsen's dream is to coach in the NFL not college.
I cant keep track of failures that are somehow spun as "not bad". Failure is failure. When you recognize it is a failure, only then can you get better.
No one has failed. Had we not offered Freeman or Nielsen then everyone would have bashed O. He offered they had better offers simple as that. Freeman didn't even entertain other offers from other big name schools such as Texas only us and Notre Dame. That's not a failure that Freeman chose not to uproot his family that's circumstances. Nielsen same damm thing. He dreamed of being an NFL head coach now he is the DC and assistant head coach of the Saints and probably will be an NFL head coach in the near future. The glass is half full not half empty. O will find the right guy.
i'll buy in on freeman as the top dc candidate this cycle but i didn't hear or see nielsen's name talked about anywhere except from LSU.... again, not the end of the day that we didn't get both targets we were after, but it wasn't smart to let the whole world know that they were targets 1 and 1A....
