:geaux::crystal::helmet: I like Miles and I admire his loyalty to his coaches. To a point. I just don't want that loyalty to cause LSU to miss out on an opportunity to get a top notch DC at LSU, whether it's Koenning or somebody else. It just needs to get done, period. I'm just saying that other schools are taking decisive action to get who they want while LSU seems to drag their feet. All we keep hearing from "official sources" is that there are "no vacancies on the LSU staff". What's the purpose in that? None that I can see. I'm glad CLM will help the coaches being displaced get jobs, but that's no reason to keep dragging feet on naming a new DC if in fact it's known who it will be. If it's known, say who it is and be decisive. That's all I'm saying. :geauxtige:champs::LSU231:

:geaux::crystal::helmet: Exactly the point. The two guys going out the door shouldn't cost us to lose out on the best DC we can get. Loyalty can get you fired, see DiNardo. :geauxtige:champs::LSU231:

:geaux::crystal::helmet: Just wanted to add that if CLM's loyalty to outgoing coaches caused LSU to miss out on both Koenning and Chavis, that wouldn't be the best career move and wouldn't be good for the program, IMO. Just sayin'. :geauxtige:champs::LSU231:

I really hope it is someone else. I'm not the least bit excited about Koenning.

Passive defenses don't win championships. The can get you close to championships but you usually lose to the more aggressive team.

:geaux::crystal::helmet: Don't know who else it would be. From what I've read, Greg Robinson doesn't seem to be interested. Also, doesn't seem to be a big push for Nix so who else could it be? Looks to be Chavis or Koenning with Koenning currently leading. If Koenning is the pick, he could possibly run different schemes with LSU's personnel. I don't really care as long as they can cover receivers and tackle, something our defense was really poor at this season. :geauxtige:champs::LSU231:

I believe the deal is all but done, the only question is Miles letting the world know that it is done. That appears to be the only question.

Effective defense win championships. People keep saying Koenning does a "bend-but-don't break" defense, but if that is the case, then how is the average yard-per-play against his D so low?

Show me another available DC that has done as good as a job of Koenning has of consistently maintaining a top-tier D for four straight seasons.

Yes, I want a D that gets me excited and makes big plays, and here is a video clip of Koenning's D doing that -- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=72RLMDK_V1A

    Total D (Yards/play)

    Clemson (Koenning 2005-2008)
    2008 -- #8
    2007 -- #7
    2006 -- #5
    2005 -- #19

    Scoring D (Points/Game)

    Clemson (Koenning 2005-2008)
    2008 - #9
    2007 - #10
    2006 - #16
    2005 - #11

Does anyone know if DC hires his own assistants, or does the HC hires the Def Assistants, or a combo of both??? I know the DC has tons of input, but can a HC tell them to hire a certain assistant? Maybe Miles is seeking a DC who is willing to have certain assistants work for him.
Also, are there any possible canidates that have a game today?

Just wish something will happen soon; don't want to miss out on a good DC because of procastination.

I don't think you can consider Koennings's defenses "top tier". They are most certainly 2nd tier.

I believe LSU will have a good defense under Koenning, not sure if it will be great, however. Not like it was for LSU from 2003-2007.
