    What I am most excited about is he is a DB coach. Our linebackers will probably continue to be mediocre under Koenning, but oh well, you can't have everything.

    He has excelled everywhere he has been with keeping the opponents from passing the ball all over the field.

    Now he needs to concentrate on stopping the run, something that has been a staple of LSU defenses for the past several years.

    You may be going solo on this sentiment.

    That ended with the promotion of his 2 best friends as CO-DCs last year about this time and it's subsequent utter failure during the 2008 football season.

    Thanks - I thought I had read something to that effect somewhere.

    Maybe it's a good move, maybe it isn't. Only Swinney can answer that; he's the one who has to live with it. Koenning is not the first good coordinator not retained by a new head coach.

    That article brings up another very good point. The Clemson offense has been pitiful. If you notice in all the stats posted the defense has been on the field alot, which to me makes the D stats more impressive.

    One thing to keep in mind with this potential hire, this is merely a stepping stone for Koenning. We're most likely looking at 3 and out like Pelini and then it's on to a head coaching job.

    Alternatively, Chavis would have made LSU his last stop of his coaching career.

    No, because then you get fired. Well, hopefully.


    But I understand your angle. It is in Koenning's best interest that LSU do VERY well these next 3 years so he can get that head coaching gig he wants.

    Exactly. I hate the whole revolving door aspect as much as anyone, but I think it tends to keep coaches honest. I'd love to see a die-hard LSU coach have a vicious defense and stay here forever, kind of like Foster at VT, but those guys are a rarity.

    I will take a 3 year revolving door of DCs, in which one of the 3 seasons, he wins a NC.
