Within the last two weeks, numerous newspapers reported that Rhoads was a candidate for the head coach of the Utah State Aggies. Rivals even reported on Dec 2 that Rhoads was "the top target" for the job (with Utah DC Gary Anderson being in the mix). Rhoads got his got his masters from Utah State in 1991 and began his coaching career there in 1989 as a graduate assistant. On Dec 4, it was announced that Anderson was the one that Utah State got as their new head coach. Did Rhoads turn them down?
Dec 6 - When five recruits de-committed because of Auburn coach Tommy Tuberville's resignation, it seems the Tigers' class might fall apart. Seven assistant coaches are trying to ensure that doesn't happen. ... The assistant coaches made the decision without any financial motivation. The coaches would have been paid regardless of their choice. Only Hugh Nall and defensive coordinator Paul Rhoads will not assist in recruiting, according to Auburn's media relations. http://www.timesdaily.com/article/20081206/ARTICLES/812060330/0/ST
Dec 6 -- Back on the Plains, most of Tuberville's assistant coaches have agreed to continue calling and visiting recruits until a new coach is hired or they find other positions. An Auburn spokesperson said defensive coordinator Paul Rhoads and offensive line coach Hugh Nall are the exceptions. http://www.al.com/auburnfootball/mobileregister/index.ssf?/base/sports/1228558528172110.xml&coll=3 Dec 6 -- The majority of Auburn’s assistant coaches will continue to recruit until a new coach is named, a university spokesman said Friday. Offensive line coach Hugh Nall and defensive coordinator Paul Rhoads are the only coaches that will not. Nall’s office has been cleaned out and his nameplate outside the door has been removed. The assistants will receive the full compensation of their contracts, athletic director Jay Jacobs said Thursday. Rhoads’ contract runs for 12 more months, while the rest have six remaining. http://www.oanow.com/oan/sports/col...ching_search_nutt_leach_out_of_running/49867/ It appears Rhoads is done at Auburn.
Dandy Don's Dec 10th update: As for coaching changes on the LSU football team, I have not heard anything to hang my hat on. Paul Rhoads' (from Auburn) name has popped up as a possible defensive coordinator. Tyrone Nix's name is also being mentioned pretty often. There are a lot of great defensive coordinators available if Miles decides to make a change. It appears that Miles will wait until after the bowl game has been played. My guess is that he will introduce new coaches at the recruiting bash the first Wednesday in February. But that is only my guess, and I hope I'm wrong.
Paul Rhoads is a solid football coach. He fielded a top 20 Defense despite having the worst injury situation in the conference, perhaps the southeast. Rhoades lost 4 of his 5 best defenders/leaders and still fielded the #17 defense. Good guy too.
I would love to have Paul Rhoads. What's the deal at Auburn, it appears he isn't staying... what's the scoop on that in Eagle Nation?
Looks like Rhoads is looking for a new DC gig: Dec 10 -- [Clemson coach] Swinney also has spoken with Auburn defensive coordinator Paul Rhoads about the Tigers' vacated defensive coordinator post. http://clemson.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=887814
I wish I had the list of exactly how many guys on the D missed games this year. I have never seen a group so decimated. Very smart man, a teacher.
I feel Chavis, Rhoads, or Nix would all be good choices. Please don't let it be Greg Robinson. Since Robinson is the only one with confirmed contact with LSU, he will probably end up at LSU.
