Norton is a long time left coaster and I don't see him leaving for LSU even for a big raise. Also I think we would be better off choosing someone with DC experience even if it is at a lower level, Norton is not a proven commodity at DC.
Here is what KNJ said about the UCLA gig and also what Maulaluga said about him..... “I’m flattered. They’ll always be a team in my heart,” said Norton, an All-American linebacker for the Bruins in 1987 who played 13 seasons in the NFL. “I feel real good about Rick Neuheisel and what he’s going to do there. “The timing just wasn’t right. I’m really appreciative of what Pete Carroll has done for me over here, and my business is not finished.” Middle linebacker Rey Maualuga, who is draft eligible, said Monday that if Norton had not assured him he would remain at USC, he probably would have turned pro. “I can’t see myself being coached by anybody else,” Maualuga said.
If he could be drawn to come here he would be a great choice because LSU has had horrible LB play. Although there is talent here, just very raw. Norton could help sure up the tackling and get rid of all this crappy, hit em high arem tackling were seeing too often.
Are you guys nuts? We need a DEFENSIVE COORDINATOR with EXPERIENCE and a SYSTEM. Norton is a great recruiter no doubt and a great position coach but we need a Defensive coordinator that has worked his way up through the ranks and has an aggressive, pro style system. Our current defense doesn't disguise it's scheme, Doesn't stunt (much). No aggression. No way to Norton or any other assistant. Give me a DC who's defense has dominated at all levels and who has earned the right to make the jump to the next level. Actively calling a defense during a game takes years of experience. It's easier for a position coach to make the jump to head coach than to a coordinator that actively calls plays during the game.
I think you would have a better chance of getting Barrack Obama as D co-ordinator than you would getting Norton Jr. out of USC.
Well maybe you can come back down to reality and figure we're not gonna be able to pull such a coach. That guy you just described is waiting for his shot at head coach. Norton is proven, he is tenacious. He's been in the trenches. He knows what's it like to pull yourself up by the bootstraps. He's a winner. Now, come again?
Barack Obama, it is. Hell, at this point, a liberal democrat has a better shot at making us into an aggressive defense.
