if thompson is going to be brought up you must mention that he never coached for LSU. he accepted the position from saban and left after 2 wks.

he did well at USM but he's too stale.

If he was the DC at USM back when they had those good teams and I think he was, this is the guy we want. He seems to have wandered around in the backwater though.

I was wondering why his bio was so confusing. It said:

In December 1999, Thompson made his move to the SEC when he was named Nick Saban's first defensive coordinator at LSU. Afforded with the opportunity to move back to his home state, Thompson was co-defensive coordinator at Arkansas in 2000, as the Razorbacks were second in the nation in pass defense and led the SEC in both pass defense and total defense. As the sole defensive coordinator in 2001, Thompson helped lead Arkansas to the 2002 Cotton Bowl.

So he was hired by Saban for the 2000 season, and then went to Arkansas instead for that season.

Look at his reume since 2000. He never seems to stay in one place too long. Wonder why that is.

:geaux: Thompson has great credentials, no doubt. Only problem is he doesn't seem to stay anywhere more than about six months or so. He would be a great pick IMO, but the downside would be stability. Doesn't seem like you could count on the guy being around for any appreciable amount of time. You can't keep the folks on staff from getting other jobs, but this guy just seems like a job-hopper supreme to me. :LSU231:

After what Thompson did to LSU I have a hard time seeing him as a coach here. Also his career has taken a deep downward spiral. DC at LSU for 2 weeks, co DC at Arkansas for a short time. A disastrous stint as HC, followed by very short unsuccessful stays at irrelevant little schools. I'd rather let some grad assistant call the D and at the rate Miles is going that might be the only choice left on the board by the time he decides to move on it.
