Just to be clear to those who might be confused on what you are trying to say: Robinson resigned on Tuesday Jan 13, 2004 -- after you guys finished 13-3 (2nd best record in the NFL), after you lost your first game in the playoffs.
That's right. I was wrong on that one. He resigned after his staunch defense gave up 38 points to the Colts in the first playoff game. Neither team punted all game. The Chiefs scored 31 points, and it still wasn't enough to win. Sounds familiar. Hmm... Needless to say, he resigned after an embarrassing tenure with the Chiefs that finished at the bottom of the NFL all 3 years. Oh, and here's a quote for you, John, about the '03 playoff team: Kansas City's defensive line has been getting manhandled lately, and they regularly miss assignments. Overall, the defensive unit finished the regular season ranked 29th on total defense, and just two teams were less effective at stopping the run. And the bad news is the pass defense is not a whole lot better. Yeah, this guy would be great.
Like anything, you can spin it either way. People that thought Robinson was great at KC will point out his strengths. People that thought Robinson sucked at KC will point out his weaknesses. I showed quotes above from Monte Kiffen, Pete Carroll, Terry Donahue and Dick Vermeil -- who all told Texas they were getting an outstanding DC with Greg Robinson. I showed how Greg Robinson did a good job as DC of Texas, just as good as the other great DCs they have had, including Muschamp. I showed how KC was 7-9 before Robinson got there, and how they were 13-3 when he left. I showed how Robinson talks about his defensive philosophy, about how he believes in an "attacking" defense that "gets the ball back for the offense as fast as you can." I showed how Robinson was able to deliver on his philosophy at KC, how during Robinson's last year at KC, they were #6 in the AFC in sacks, #5 in the NFL in forced turnovers, #3 in the NFL in interceptions, and #1 in the NFL in turnover margin (with an outstanding +19 advantage). That's a lot of positive points about the guy. If you'd let go of your personal hatred of the guy, you might see that.
the chiefs offense was #1 in the league and robinson's defense was 29th in scoring and last in total defense. they didnt win because of the defense, john. much like missouri and tx tech historically, they won in spite of it. former coaches give praise to assistants if they like the guy. its common practice in the coaching fraternity. its not a paid endorsement. if he was so good, vermeil wouldnt have had to can the guy after having the top scoring offense in the league. most of the time if you have the best offense you can overlook the defense. but yet, he still couldnt hide him.
Dude, at first, I thought you were on here to add to discussion, but now I think you are a little attention starved. When someone tells you that his defense finished 29th in that 13-3 season, you say that people will spin it a certain way. NO ONE liked him at KC, at least after the first year. Who the EFF cares? They have something to show for, and he doesn't. It's like Tiger Woods sponsoring a Pinto. It's still crap, no matter how good the endorsements are. Besides, Texas finished with a sub-par #23 defense. All that talent, just as much as LSU, and only #23. After Robinson left, they finished #10. Where was that in your googling? Again, he left after having a 29th ranked defense. They didn't get to 13-3 because of him, it was in spite of him! Talk is cheap and any Syracuse and Chief fan will say the same thing. THEY STILL FINISHED 29th in TOTAL DEFENSE. They had NO pass defense, so everyone tried to pass on them, and when they did, they were fortunate enough to snag some passes and get sacks. All those #3, #6, and #5 look good, but the #29 is miserable. Again, stats don't show everything. I don't hate him as a person, but as a coach, I don't like him at all. I have no idea what kind of guy he is off of the sideline, but he's a bum as far as football is concerned now. 1998 passed a long time ago. You've lost this one, and there is no amount of copy and paste that will save you. He sucked. End of story.
Forgot to add: Robinson took over as DC of Denver when they were ranked last in total defense, and then got their D into the Top 10 in total defense for three different seasons. Also got their D into the Top 10 in scoring defense for three different seasons. Also got their D into the Top 10 in pass defense for four different seasons. Also got their D into the Top 10 in run defense for three different seasons. The guy won two back-to-back Superbowls as DC of the Broncos.
And despite all that, he went to Texas and did just as good as Muschamp and the other great DCs they had.
... and was fired by Shanahan after the defense went down hill in the following seasons. 1998 was a long time ago, bro. Now I know why you copy and paste so much. You have no argument, so you mask whatever you call an argument with gooling to make it look as though you have a point. Instead, when others prove the plethora of text you paste as wrong, or at least as misleading, you keep posting and posting and posting extremely misleading and dated information. We judge a coach based on recent success, not what happened 10+ years ago. I was speaking about his coaching career, and you know that. I'm not going to post in this thread anymore. It's far too frustrating.
