It's about time someone said it.

You mean you didn't learn anything from the rest of the crew? I'm shocked. :hihi:

Okay, since 1998, what the hell has he done in the last 10 years? The guy has fallen off completely, and I'm beginning to wonder, much like the NFL and the majority of the NCAA, that he benefited from an offense that controlled the ball with Elway and Davis (2,000 yards rusher) at the helm and kept the defense off the field, not to mention he had several all-pro players at his disposal. It's not like he was Belichek who uses a lot of marginal-to-good players to get the job done.

    Again, I say no thanks.

Geez, are you ADD? I just wrote the below reply to you last night.

Yes, he hasn't been a DC since 2004. Maybe he is rusty now. But he did a good job as DC of Texas in 2004.

Like Pete Carroll or not, but he is one of the most respected defensive minds in the game today. No denying that. And that's coming from a USC hater.

Belichick, Saban and Carroll all in that same discussion.

I remember how good those Denver defenses were. And they sucked mightily before he got there. A lot of the same players too.

I can't remember what was the deal in KC. He was not able to turn it around there, obviously.

And then Texas hires him in 04 and does pretty well (#23 nationally).

He should not have taken the Syracuse job, the program was already in the dumpster.

You guys with all your facts and information are making me not dread his seemingly inevitable hiring quite so much.

He really doesn't seem like such a terrible choice. He seems to have a good, aggressive attitude and style, and could bring some much-needed innovation to our defense. The only thing that scares me a little is that it sounds like his schemes might get a little too complex, which could create problems for a defensive unit that was lost & confused running simplified schemes.

And no one who has Greg Robinson in mind would believe he could hold any of their jock straps.

Maybe Johnbot can provide us with some before and after stats of both the defemse and the players.

So, LSU finishes in the top 5 in defense the last 5 of the 6 years ('03-'07), and now we're impressed with a guy who finished #23 (once) at Texas, a school that pulls in just as many good, quality recruits as LSU. By the way, Texas finished #10 in total defense the year after he left. Hmm...

And don't give me that "he was a head coach, not a defensive coordinator" crap, Johnbot. Everyone on earth knows that Pete Caroll and Nick Saban are the brains behind their defense, and Steve Spurrier and Urban Meyer are the brains behind their offenses. They seem to do quite well handling both. Robinson, on the other hand, with his apparent defensive genius, couldn't do jack with Syracuse or the KC Chiefs.

My, we really are ready to settle for less.

    Total defense for LSU:

    2003 - #1
    2004 - #3
    2005 - #3
    2006 - #3
    2007 - #3

But I think I actually coined the term 'Johnbot,' but I might have to double check google on that one.

Well I can tell you where he's at in 2008. #66.

So does Pelini all of a sudden suck as a DC?

No, he's the head coach. Much in the same way Robinson was head coach at Syracuse.
