Yeah, I think thats a strong possibility. I'm sure he'll at least have the chance. You never know, he may develop some arm strength too. I just hope the other guys get PLENTY of playtime too.
LSU blog, And The Valley Shook, wrote this about Walker today: Dewayne Walker has an outstanding reputation as a defensive coordinator, and is a rising star in coaching circles. He's a hard-nosed coach whose attitude is probably closer to that of Vince Lombardi than of Les Miles. He would be a good complement to Miles' laid-back demeanor. ... it is generally believed that if LSU were to hire Dewayne Walker it would be a home run hire. It is still questionable that Walker would accept the position if offered. It is no secret that Walker wants a head coaching position. He has struck out in his bids for them so far, and the positions around the country are rapidly filling. He may want to hold out for the last couple of openings, however. Also, he has spent his entire college career on the West Coast, and one wonders if he would want to begin again in the South.
If he gets recognition in the south.. what's left? He'll be a shoe-in for a head coach. Hell, he'd probably end up at UT under Muschamp in a few years. Or at Auburn.
Brian Dohn of the Los Angeles Daily News: 12/22 -- Sources also said LSU representatives reached out to Walker about becoming the Tigers defensive coordinator (LINK). 12/19 -- Walker has been linked to becoming LSU's defensive coordinator, but sources added Walker was not going to pursue that position at this time. (LINK) A UCLA blog made this point: 12/22 -- In some ways if Walker were to serious consider the LSU DC gig, it would put him in the same situation when he joined Karl Dorrell at UCLA or if he were to join Willingham up in Seattle at the end of last season. Both of those situations just like Miles’s current one LSU have the common thread of a head coach on fiery hot seat where a bad season could finish them off (well in KD and TY’s case they were ultimately done). So we will see what Walker decides over next few weeks. One of the user comments to this was: There are pros and cons to [Walker going to LSU], ... On the one hand, it would/could be more money (probably not MUCH more), ... and a better step towards becoming a head coach— ... Coordinators from the SEC and Big 12 are getting more head coaching jobs then any other position... But on the other hand, it would be a lateral move to a coaching staff that is on the hot seat, as mentioned above. A lousy season at UCLA, and he still has a job for 2010. A lousy season at LSU, and he will most likely be moving yet again and finding another job, ... Another thought: if he is only 1 year away from finding a dream Head Coaching position (Notre Dame could open up, Florida could open up should Meyer take the ND job, Texas Tech may open up should Leach opt for a bigger program), then moving laterally, 2,000 miles away for 1 season, may not really be worth it. All that being said, I think Walker would probably be best served staying at UCLA. He knows the area, the west coast knows him, and certainly jobs will open up for him.
Miles is not on the hot seat and one more below average season will not do him in. Where are these guys getting their information?:huh::huh:
I think what they were trying to say is that Walker has been coaching and teaching the guys at UCLA for two years now, whereas if he came to LSU, he would have to start over. Also I didn't read it closely enough: I thought he was saying that if DW came to LSU, he might be more on the hot seat as LSU DC than if he stayed at UCLA for his third season.
Without a doubt they are saying Miles is on a hot seat just like Willingham was last season. I don't see how you could possibly compare Willingham's situation with Miles situation. Also how is it a lateral move from UCLA who's best season in the last 3 is 7-6 and LSU which has 2 National Championships in the last 5 years.:huh::huh:
Yeah, UCLA didn't exactly light it up this year, either. They went 4-8 overall, 3-6 in the Pac-10, including the 59-0 loss to BYU.
