See the link for accomplishments, Positives 1) Has coached every position on defense while at Southern Miss. 2) Was able to have competitive defenses at Southern Miss and the defense was the catalyst for their success 3) Familiar with the SEC 4) Innovative - While at Southern Miss he ran some innovative stuff to keep his defenses ahead of the offenses with lower level talent 5) LB coach and ours really need some coaching. http://www.olemisssports.com/ViewAr...7&DB_OEM_ID=2600&ATCLID=1351223&Q_SEASON=2007
Before the MSU game, OM was ranked #82 in pass defense, #9 in rush defense and #30 in total defense. He might need a little more time at OM.
Money...LSU would probably double his salary and would not be that far from home since he is from Miss. Plus if he turns around the defense and has a high level of success he could get a lot more recognition at LSU than at Ole Miss. This exposure could lead to a head coaching job since he is only 35 years old. Even though we lost all five on CBS we were on CBS five times. Ole Miss will never be on CBS five times.
I'd prefer someone who isn't looking to the immediate future of leaving for another job. And that's what would more than likely happen given most of the conversation on CBS today.
I really don't care if they are looking at the immediate future. If he does a good job he could be named HC in waiting. Miles is a little older 54 or something like that and I don't see him coaching into his 60s. I think he would prefer to enjoy his life rather than having to deal with spoiled SEC fans.
Ugh, I really don't like this new "head coach in waiting" trend. And remember guys, assistant coaches leaving for head coaching jobs is a GOOD thing, not the other way around. That means they performed well. I would love for LSU to become "head coach U" and constantly churn out assistants turned head coaches. Wouldn't we be a lot happier if that was the reason we were looking for a new DC?
Tyrone Nix is an outstanding coordinator and a class act. I was at USM when he was a player. Nasty nasty nasty hitter. His younger brother, Derrick Nix was an incredible running back. He sustained an ankle injury, and the medication that was given to him destroyed his liver, which forced him to dialysis and ended his career. He became USM's runningbacks coach. The entire Nix family is full of class and respect for the game. I guarantee Tyrone will be a head coach in the near future.
