Why are so many announcers and writers in love with this guy? He is one of the worst position players in baseball. If I have to hear one more time how much heart he has or how much he hustles I'm going to throw up in my mouth. I actually read an entire article praising him for being such a good bunter. Maybe if he could be counted on for a hit, his manager wouldn't ask him to sacrifice himself so frequently. Bunting is what pitchers are asked to do. I can't even begin to tell you how annoying it is when he sprints to first base after a walk. What exactly is the point of that? That, and diving for balls that he has zero chance of getting to. Maybe he does it because announcers, writers and managers seem to eat that sh*t up. He also throws like a girl.
WTF??? They guy is not great by any means, but he does play hard. He isn't built like the SS of the American League and he doesn't have the raw talent of the Renteria's or the Reyes's of the world, but he is a good player. He may have to cock it back to throw across the diamond..but he gets it there. I for one am an Eckstein fan.
Eckstein rocks! He is a gamer that has come up big for the Cards since he has been there. He looks funny making the throw to first, but hell I've never seen it cost him an out.
I just emailed David the link to this thread. The Mets are in trouble tonight now cause he is pissed!
Here is my problem with him. He was the leadoff hitter for probably the best offensive club last year and could only score 90 runs. Dude should have easily had 125. And yes having to see his body flung all the way to the pitchers mound on his throws across the diamond is a little too much.
It's not that I don't like the guy, it's everyone fawning over him that drives me nuts. Besides Jose Valentin of the NYM, he will be the worst player on the field tonight. Keeping that in mind, listen to how McCarver and Buck talk about him.
