Clearly. But LSU fans don't want a coach unless he's established in a P5 program and then complain that he wo t leave his grwat P5 team to come to LSU. Aranda's peers rave about him. Here's what a coach needs to be successful at LSU. 1. the ability to recruit 2. Be a good Xs and Os coach 3. Be able to hire good coordinators and let them do their job. 4. Adaptability - in game and in the coaching staff. What's Aranda missing? He could be stubborn about firing a coordinator that's not getting it done, that we don't know about him, but he's got the rest.
Which I think is cutting the talent pool to a very small number and I don't for one second buy into it as a pre-req. Saban, Meyer, Miles all sort of ho-hum before they get a big break job.
Out total D is ranked 46th. A ton of circumstances factor into that, many above what Aranda can control. I'm wait and see too because handing the keys to a reputation alone is just not a smart decision. I'm all for it once I can see he has exceeded expectations with the defense before him which, if he is the cat they say he can be, the product on the field should continue to improve. He could very well earn that consideration or he can show bust. But bust should not come over night. It's early and this season dredges on. A lot of things that factor into a decision like this have yet to happen. LSU made its move to avoid just that, having to make an overnight decision. So Aranda should have consideration, but he needs to stand in line with every other swinging dick out there all while improving his chances, right here, every Saturday.
I dont totally disagree with what you're saying, just that there are somethings you only get from interviews with the guy and people who know him. Maybe Aranda has the intangibles. I'm digging him so far.
I don't get the whole we MUST have an offensive minded coach as our next HC. We need a good HC, that is all. At the end of the day a great D will more times than not beat a great O. We need a good HC, be it a defensive or offensive minded coach. A coach that will instill accountability, a winning culture, a culture of improvement. A coach that will hire good coordinators and give them free reign. The problem with Miles is that he was stubborn beyond repair. There was no more accountability or the coaching up of players. The winning mind set was lost.
As for Aranda, I think the jury is still out. We shall see what happens under Coach O in the next few games. I really like what I'm hearing so far from Coach O, but it will be difficult to undue all that Miles has done after this many games. Coach O really is almost in a no win situation. I hope he pulls it out though.
I think Aranda is a year or two away from a HC spot. LSU isn't a place you promote someone from Coordinator to HC. You really need the HC experience. You might as well keep Orgeron if that's the best we can do at LSU.
