Danny Nutt doesn't care what Charles Bloom thinks

In September 2007, associate commissioner for the SEC Charles Bloom stated in an email to the Associated Press, "Danny Nutt cannot be in the team bench area or in the coaches' box during the football games. He can watch the game from the sidelines [outside the team bench area] or any other area in the stadium that would not cause him to be deemed a countable member of the football staff." (see http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=3036307 )

So... why then does Danny Nutt continue to blatantly violate mandates from the NCAA and the SEC?

According to NCAA Bylaw 11.7.2, each institution may employ a maximum of 12 coaches in Division I-A football. This limit includes one head coach, nine assistant coaches and 2 graduate assistant coaches... and Danny Nutt is NOT one of the nine assistant coaches at Ole Miss. nothing personal, but take a deep breath and look around.

in case you haven't noticed, the SEC office and Mike Slive are trying to polish-up the SEC's image nationally. They don't give a damn what you do, as long as it is kept on the down-low.

BTW, has Danny Nutt recovered from his cancer?

Understood. However, I'd hardly call gratuitous shots at a nationally televised game "on the down-low." That's what got Danny & Arkansas chastized by the SEC last year... ESPN cameras caught Danny up in the coaching booth with a headset on during the game, when he was supposedly too ill to be on staff.

And it wasn't cancer... it was a bleeding brain stem that supposedly forced him to step down from his coaching position in July 2007. But evidently it wasn't serious enough to keep him from going for jogs around campus in the days and weeks that followed, or from being on the sidelines or in the booth at games that season. And it also evidently wasn't serious enough to keep him from going back to work just six months later when he was well enough to be named "Assistant Athletics Director for Player Development" at Ole Miss.

Looks like Mike Slive has some work to do.

What's the big deal? I must've missed the story on why the SEC has banned him from the sideline/press box. Is it because he's not officially on the coaching staff?

Well, which "big deal" are you talking about?

The big deal where Charles Bloom, associate commissioner for the SEC, cited Nutt and Arkansas last year? The ESPN story about that is in the link I provided in my original post:

    http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=3036307

Or are you talking about the big deal where, despite previous warnings from the SEC, Danny Nutt continues to participate in coaching during football games (as evidenced in Saturday's LSU game), despite the fact that Danny is not one of Ole Miss' nine assistant coaches... a fact which violates NCAA Bylaw 11.7.2, as illustrated by the graphics above?

Who cares? I do, for one. And I'm sure there are a few other people who care as well - folks who matter.

What exactly is the point of even HAVING a rule, an article, or a law - in sports or anything else - if there is no intention of ever enforcing it?

But thanks for everything you bring to the board.

Ok, you care, but take to the SEC or NCAA or somewhere else.

And, yeah, I certainly appreciate everything, including the avatar, that drc40 brings to the board. In fact, I think I'm in love with that avatar. But that's just me.
