[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5vfbM4xPuqc]5th Quarter: LSU Offense vs. Alabama Defense - YouTube[/ame] Forgive me if someone else posted this a few weeks ago. I just came across it. I know how you all love Danielson. What do you think of his assessment?
Danielson slurring ... Is that a beer? LOL Danielson talking LSU's advantage with quickness against Bama's power ... and saying need 20+ throws to beat Bama ... Not very informative! Slathered over Barron!
He's 100 % right on his assessment. LSU won't win a battle of power and might in the trenches with Bama. We will have to be as creative as we have shown all year on offense, lots of finesse mixed on with the power running game. I think LSU has the weapons it needs at receiver in Randle and Beckham along with the X factor Shepard who is coming along nicely for the first time as an LSU Tiger. It comes down to play calling in that game. Coach Stud is going to be the biggest X factor in the entire game.
YUP .... my latest analysis after figuring in TN and Ol Miss, and doing it based on pure raw data .... says one thing. Bama's Offense is not likely to overwhelm LSU's defense. ... the question will be, how much has CLM been holding back on the LSU offense. It really is going to come down to whether or not we score well, or die in a bunch of 3 and outs. By my calculations .. Bama will score somewhere between 17 and 21 points. The X Factor will be LSU's offense. How good are they really. We really haven't played very stiff defenses. We've been in situations where we could pound defenses into submission ... but I don't think Bama is going to fall into that category. At the same token, Bama's defense hasn't played squat for offenses. The collective offensive strenght of Bama's opponents has been 0.7, meaning they only score 70% of what they should against their other oponents excluding Bama. LSU's defense has been playing against collective offenses that score 1.21, meaning the are scoring 21% more on their other opponents than they should, excluding LSU. ... and I think you're right ... play calling is giong to be the difference.
We will lose if we keep doing what we've been doing - pounding the ball with occasional throws. Bama's D is way too physical for that. Most important thing is good pass protection from the O-line and I trust J. Lee to do the rest from there. Like others have said, we need to throw some wrinkles in there, use our speed and playmakers to our advantage. Having said that, I think Beckham, Ford, Randle, and Jefferson have big games for us. Talk about a clash of the titans. Wow, can't wait.
We've been taking care of the ball. That will obviously be a key against the Tide. Pass protection is a must as well.
As always, turnovers will be huge. If we can get 2 interceptions, I think we win. The other factor could be how our tricky plays turn out. We always seem to get them at the perfect time.
LSU has 3 turnovers and sacked only 5 times. Those are the 2 big numbers for LSU's offense. We simply don't shoot ourselves in the foot and rarely ever get into a 3rd and really long situations (over 10 yards in length).
Completing some 1st down passes - down field throws in the 10+ yard range - in the first few drives would be huge. This could create some momentum for the offense, build Lee's confidence, and force 'bama to crowd the line. But, for now, we have 1 more game to play! :helmet:
