We drove by it a few weeks ago on the way back from a weekend in Fort Worth. It's massive. I'm still bitter, though, that the former mayor of Dallas did not really try to get that stadium in Dallas. The Arlington Cowboys just doesn't have the same ring to it--not to mention that Plano is a good 50-60 miles from that stadium.
Sorry, but not everything in DFW needs tobe placed forthe convenience of the North Dallas/Collin County crowd.:yelwink2: Not that I'm likely to go to a Cowboys game, anyway.
While I'm overly not concerned with the convenience to North Dallas Suburbs, the stadium should be in Dallas. It would have gone a long way toward reviving a shell of a downtown that Dallas currently has. The fact that Miller let that slip away is a travesty. I haven't seen it since it was a hole in the ground last year. I'm going to the baseball game tonight so I'll check it out.
I don't live in Dallas or Texas for that matter. I live in Omaha. However, I am a Cowboy fan. I have to believe Jerry Jones did what was best for the Cowboys in picking the site for the new stadium. With that said, I know this type of discussion is a hot button issue in any city that is considering building a new Stadium. Omaha recently decided to build a new downtown stadium to host the CWS. I was against it at first, but I'll continue to support the CWS and will embrace the new stadium. I have a feeling the same will happen in Dallas and surrounding areas eventually.
Hey, now--do I detect a little animosity directed towards my dear Collin County, one of the top ten richest counties in the country? By the way, I doubt I'm contributing much to it being in the top ten. I just think it's a shame that the new stadium could've completely revitalized Fair Park and been a centerpiece of the city--and helping in getting rid of the slums in South Dallas in that area. All of Fair Park would've gotten a much-needed facelift, and the Cotton Bowl would've also stayed in Dallas. I'm sure it'll be in Arlington inside of three years. Laura Miller was an absolute disaster as mayor of Dallas. Ron Kirk or Tom Leppert would've made the deal happen.
Just kidding, Plano has actually been pretty good to me; my wife is from there, and I used to do quite a bit of business up in Collin County. However, when we married and I moved her to Burleson, it was as if I was taking her to the dark side of the moon!
The funny thing is, I know a lot of people from Arlington, and the majority of them wish it wasn't being built there, mainly for the tax increases. I don't remember what the amount the city had to cough up, but it was a pretty good chunk for a city that size. I'm not even sure if they're finished paying off the Rangers park, whatever they're calling it these days.
