Just found out I'm going to be making the opener in Jerry World. Staying near the airport. Getting to Dallas Friday afternoon and leaving Monday morning. Other than the game, obviously, any suggestions of stuff to do in Big D? There are four of us going (2 guys, 2 girls) and three of us have never been to Dallas. Thanks. :geauxtige:geauxtige:geauxtige
I don't go to the mid cities area where you will be staying. Afraid that there are just chain bars/restuarants around there but don't know for sure. My favorite area is the Knox / Henderson area in Dallas. Great nightlife and appropriate for nice dinners with the girls. Favorite restuarant there is an old one.. Hibiscus. Some of the best food in town in my opinion. Plenty of bars you can walk to after dinner. Otherwise, there are tons of nice steakhouses in town: Bob's, Pappas, Cap Grill. One more restaurant that is great... Javier's. Real Mexican food with great margaritas and a rocking cigar bar. I am too old to comment on the hottest clubs. Someone else will have to jump in. I just like to eat and drink! :geaux:
I would also put in a vote for the Knox/Henderson area, and I will also say that I don't know squat about the clubs, either. I live in the 'burbs--though not the 'burbs where you'll be. If the ladies like shopping, there will be plenty of that. Also, the ladies might like to take a ride through the Highland Park area of Dallas for a gander at the mansions. Not far from Highland/University Park (near SMU) is the original Campisi's pizza joint. It's a Dallas institution and worth trying out.
Thanks for the replies so far. I should have mentioned that 3/4ths of us are middle aged farts (one of whom just crossed into the land of the 40s today) so clubs are probably not going to be on the agenda. Though the other, who is deep in the throes of a quarter-life crisis, might have something to say about that. Hibiscus sounds nice as does Javier's. Is Campisi's open on Sundays? Also planning to visit Dealey Plaza (want to form my own opinions of what happened on that November day). Any suggestions on that?
Babes fried chicken. Voted the best in the country by Southern Living magazine. Family Restaurant, Kids friendly, Fried Chicken, Catering, Home cooking, Country Style, Dallas, Carrollton, Fort Worth There is one in Arlington. The chicken really is that good.
Don't get in any fights and if you see a group of Football players in the parking lot you know what not to do!
Middle aged, fart, alot..........jk. Head to Fort Worth and go to Sundance Square. Cowtown beats Yuppie Town all night long. Of course this is MHO from an even older aged farter!!!:champs:
Campisi's will be open on Sunday. The Sundance Square recommendation is also a good one--lots of nice restaurants down there. If the weather was going to be nice (as in not 105 degrees), I'd recommend Joe T. Garcia's near the Stockyards. The food isn't the best in the world, but the atmosphere on the patio is terrific--when it's not 105 degrees (but that's how hot it'll be, so...)
Sundance Square does look like a good time. And, yeah, the heat does seem to be a concern. I plan to spend most of my time inside.
You are correct about JT Garcia food, however in this heat clothing on the back bar will be minimal at best!!!
