Are opposing coaches now looking at Miles as a total goof who will lose games before he wins them, sort of like Dale Brown did as basketball coach? I became fan of a Bobby Knight candor and sarcasm when Indiana was trailing LSU big in a game and came back to win handily. A reporter asked Knight if he was ever worried with LSU having such a big lead at halftime. I'm paraphrasing, but Knight responded that when he looked down the court and saw that Dale Brown was still coaching the Tigers, he had no doubt that Indiana would come back in win. I'm thinking that is what is happening on the sidelines of opposing teams regarding Miles and especially Crowton. If a game is close, LSU will get lucky but can be outcoached. Our problem is that the team and Miles don't have a killer instinct, we aren't playing to win decisively against inferior opponents and I hope that changes this week. Thank Gawd for our defense.
You could also look at it this way: Opposing coaches are smart for the most part and most smart coaches play the odds of what the other coach will likely do in certain situations. Well, with our escaped mental patient in the hat.......all bets are off. That is good and bad, for LSU fans, and the opposing team. When its good he looks like he does not deserve to be on the short bus, when it looks like UT, he is the one starting the "99 bottles of beer on the wall" song from the back of the short bus.
Maybe that is what Butch Davis was thinking...but it didn't happen. Maybe that is what Bobby Johnson was thinking...but it didn't happen. Maybe that is what Dan Mullen was thinking...but it didn't happen. Maybe that is what Bill Stewart was thinking...but it didn't happen. Maybe that is what Derek Dooley was thinking...but it didn't happen. The difference between Dale Brown and Les Miles? Les Miles won a National championship and Dale Brown never advanced past the final four.
It could be worse: Les Miles=John Brady Les Miles=Curley Hallman Les Miles=Smoke Laval Les Miles=Mike Archer I could go on and on.
Dale Brown was a motivation speaker not a basketball coach. Very good when your team isn't as talented, but he completely blew it with very talented teams with his lack of X and O knowledge. Not sure I see the comparison, at least Dale had something to offer.
I don't know about you guys, but I loved Coach Brown. I certainly wouldn't take being compared to Coach Brown as an insult.
I am not defending Miles. But seriously Look at his record. People may look at him like a "bumbling fool" as people say. but most of those coaches would love to have his record, recruiting and this defense. I guess Mark Richt is a genius ??
