Should help open up the passing next year. Hopefully we start utilizing the TE more, I think this is a huge step in that direction. Seems most of our TE recruits the last few years have been more of the blocking type. We have seen glimpses with David Jones, but that position can be a huge threat if used right.
I think David Jones is better than we know. I am not a coach basher at all (especially not with the great staff we have). But, I think that Jimbo has not done a real good job at incorporating the TE this year. I'm sure there are reasons that we dont know for that being the case but I for one would like to see David get the ball more.
I looked into this kid some more and he is a bigger get for us than I originally thought. It seems as though Texas was begging this kid to come to Austin and they see him as a player who will contribute almost immediately. He is much more of the Jeremy Shokey type than I ever gave him credit for. Word on the street is that he had a great visit and I also read that his girlfriend is an LSU student - will someone please find out who she is and make sure their love blossoms all the way through signing day!!!!!!
From what I've read she is actually a grade behind him but intends to attend BR when she gets out. So he'll have a year to fool around and dump her.
I think Coach Fisher uses every option that the quarterbacks can execute. We don't know how many passing plays were designed to go to the TE because the quarterbacks can't execute the plays. How many wide open receivers do we see each game that are never seen by the quarterbacks?
I agree with you, roygu - my point is that maybe if the QB's were instructed to look TE first or even earlier in their progression they would have the opportunity to find the open guy and build some confidence over the middle and get into a groove. Of course, I have no idea what the deal is, but I do know that our TE's have been running GREAT routes and are often open in much more space than the WR's.
