Can't help but think a word of confidence from Hester might have help sell the deal.

Wow, awesome, especially since Byrd is a JC transfer (had issues getting into a real college), had issues last season, and was just involved in that horrible auto accident that put him in critical condition (he has since been updated to good condition and is expected to recover fully).

Yeah, Byrd had those issues last season (so did many of you as Tiger fans), but he was one of the most beloved Tigers on the 2007 National Championship LSU football team.

I wouldn't be surprised if Byrd turned out to be great in the NFL (and not as an embarrassing Terrell Owens type).

He was a key player for the season of that championship team, no doubt about it. Everytime I think about him, I think of the incredible TD catch in the last seconds of that Auburn game. Major contributor, and I wish him the best.

He was clutch in the AU game and many others in '07. That's probably why so many of us were so doggone disappointed in him in '08. But, obviously, he was frustrated, as all of us were.

I'm happy that SD is taking a chance on him, and I hope that his recovery allows him to play in the NFL.

Nice to see an NFL team take a chance on a guy that's in the hospital. He will see some familiar faces in San Diego. Buster, Jacob, and Darry. It will be almost like being in BR.

byrd was a headcase last year but good to see someone take a chance on him.

espn had a nice update saying he was the feel-good story of the draft.

Craig Davis would probably have more pull then Hester but none of them had nothing to do with him being drafted. If going with that thought So Bowe got Dorsey drafted and Dorsey got Tyson Jackson drafted?

Not my logic at all. Just sayin,
ESPN dumped on Byrd's character and his work ethic and this town is running with the WTH remarks so it only make sense to ask a brother, right? Inquiring minds wanna know and so I do not think any player on an NFL roster is going to want to jeopardize his integrity just to see a bro in. I think they had more then nothing to do with formulating the final decision however much weight their opinions carried.
