I guess he didnt want to go to a contender. For some people money is more important than trophys. (Like the one the Cardinals have
So much for him ever getting a ring. And 8 years? Wow...I wouldn't have wanted the 'Stros locking in like that anyway -- well, I guess I could learn to live with it. :hihi:
Soriano's a dead pull hitter.....he would average about 55-60 homers a season as an Astro. I woulda loved him for 8 years.
Very true -- I think he's a remarkably better player than Carlos Lee, as well. It's tough to quantify just how much a fast, athletic player can help a team (in the field, on bases, pitching strategies, etc.) And I keep hearing the comments that Carlos Lee is eating himself into Cecil Fielder shape. I just hope the 'Stros don't do something stupid and overpay for somebody just for the sake of making a move.
Show Me The Money If the Cubs want to throw that kind of money around. It's not the $17 m a year that amazes me so much as the 8 yrs. Soriano will be 39 at the end of this contract. I guess one great year will get you a lot of Benjamins. That's ok, the Cubs still don't have any pitching. Stros may have to dig a little deeper or add some years to the contract now to get Lee and time is ticking away...
Re: Show Me The Money They also signed Ramirez, which I didn't think they would . I know he had to cost a lot as well. They also just signed DeRosa from the Rangers. He had his breakout season. Funny, they go out and sign a 2B instead of just letting Soriano play 2B. They said Soriano will play center field for the first time. I guess they must have given up on Pierre. That will be a great lineup of 3 thru 5 should Soriano, Lee and Ramirez stay healthy. That's a big if. Still no pitching. They signed Kerry Wood as well. I think he is relegated to long relief now. Mark Prior is now in charge of washing the jock straps. Cubs suck.
How good of a pick-up is this really? The guy sucks in the infield and according to scouting reports can't hit for crud against the top 10% of pitchers.
