You are correct on the basic fact that aid was suspended as of March, 2009. If it can be perceived as correct, though, the following BBC report shows that cessation of aid was due to refusal by the loons-in-charge of that paleolithic country. North Koreans are taight that Dear Leader has conquered most of Asia, and Korea is a huge empire. Maps of the world in Korean Geography Books include Russia, China, and India as part of the Korean state.
Power vacuum. It will be interesting to monitor the internal power struggle to see who comes out on top. Certainly there must be a way to exploit this.
Of course, but the Chinese will try to stymie us. They mostly despise North Korea, but they have always hoped that they could someday trade North Korea for Taiwan without a fight with the United States of America. If their trump card collapses internally, that trump card goes away. They will support North Korea under almost all circumstances. The last thing China wants is for North Korea to collapse, because then they either have to take on millions of impoverished people and a ruined economy run by a failed bureaucracy . . . or . . . they will have to let the wealthy South Koreans take over. Either way, China loses. They don't want North Korea to invade the south either, because it is a war they cannot win. Neither North Korea nor China have a lot of good options right now. The US is being smart and waiting for them to choose which way they will screw up.
The question I have is why do the leaders of NK want their people to be so dumb and out of touch with the rest if the world? What are they gaining with this approach? Why are the citizens still forbidden to have electricity? If you look at an electricity map of the world NK sits in the dark. I know the people of NK are not allowed to listen to outside radio signals and what not. But the question is why do the leaders of NK want to keep their people in the dark?
The leaders themselves are out of touch with the rest of the world. They do not travel and no outside media get into the country except in the black market at great risk. Absolute power. The only way to maintain a serfdom in the 21st century is to keep the people ignorant that things are far better elsewhere. The iron boot is the only thing preventing revolution in North Korea. They simply can't afford electricity. The country is desperately poor. The government is poor, the economy is dead, and the people are poor. They would love electricity but they cannot afford it. They can't even feed themselves.
Knoledge is power. Those without knoledge have no power. You can teach the truly ignorant anything and they will believe it as fact.
