2 things 1. Our TE's have good hands but you really shouldn't have much trouble covering them with a LB if your LB's are disciplined. Nichol is the starting TE, a blocking TE, with good hands but slowish. Ballard is a real wild card because some games he great and is a real playmaker and others he's just good and I guess you could say he is deceptively fast for a guy that weighs around 270. He's no Trindon Holiday though. 2. I really think you underestimate the speed of OSU. I'll give you talent, maybe, but keep in mind Beanie Wells is a beast of a RB, Robo is a first round WR in the draft this year as a junior and his dad is an NFL recievers coach so he's very polished, and Boeckman is what, around 10th in passing efficiency in the NCAA so its not like the talent pool is dry. LSU does have a few players that are faster than any OSU player but not many and not at positions that really give you a huge advantage over our guys. I'm sure Malcolm Jenkins and Donald Washington can both hold their own. Both are physical 6 to 6'1 corners that have very respectable sub 4.4 forty times. Not slow.
Ginn did quite a bit for the offense last year and much of our offensive game plan was schemed around him. There were many factors that went into that thrashing we took last year but most of all I would say we were arrogant and bought into what the media was saying. We didn't practice well or have that right attitude going into the game against a very good football team. We were cocky, the fan base was cocky, and in turn we really got what we deserved. So now that you know my opinion on the UF game last year do you want to talk football and about LSU vs. OSU or do you want to flame some more about a game that happened a year ago against a team that wasn't you. I will gladly go back to the scout board and never come back if you want to flame and not talk football.
We are familiar with Robiskie and his dad. His dad Terry was an SEC MVP for LSU and one of our greats. Your QB is very efficient, but when he does not play well, neither does Ohio State. LSU's D will be the strongest defense Ohio State has played all year and I believe we can force Boeckman into some bad decisions. I don't think Boeckman is all that great, kinda reminds me of Justin Zwick to tell you the truth. He is the weakest link on Ohio State's team because everywhere else they are very solid.
Hey bro, I wasn't the one the brought up the last year's NCG....I made a valid question and don't understand why you gotta get all worked up about it...That being said, I'm not gonna shed a tear if you don't come back and I sure don't mind talking about how LSU is gonna beat your team.
If I were you guys I would spread us out as well. We like most teams have trouble containing mobile QB's. Lots of short passes causes us problems. When we have to keep our linebackers and safetys back in coverage you can pick us apart. OSU's defense is at its best when it is attacking. When we go to being reactionary is when we have problems. Last year our secondary was weak and was finally exposed by Michigan and florida. I thought we would have been exposed earlier in the year but we were not. This year our secondary is a strength. Illinois beat us by spreading us out and gashing us up the middle with the run.
He is, but he is still maturing. He hasn't turned into the truck master that many OSU fans thought he would be. He has a good speed burst once he finds a crease, and will not be tackled from behind a la arm tackle. But if you can hit him at the line, head on... he 95% will get tackled. I don't mean to sound outlandish... but Robiskie is no first round WR. He is a solid reciever, but he is no Gonzalez. We know his dad... he played at LSU. Boeckman is good, when he has 7 seconds to find the open reciever, but if pressured (Illinois), he will make some dumb tosses. Basically, Boeckman's job is to establish a running game and then use the playaction to launch deep balls (which he is very accurate at) or find the check man (usually a TE). He is good at his job, but don't think that our Defense can't rattle him or disguise coverages. Our speed will come in, in mismatches. You have a speedy secondary, but your linebackers (other then Laurinitis) are not great in coverage. I'm sure just about your whole team could make our squad... you have great players. And the speed is not that big of a factor. Your secondary is top ranked, but you haven't really played an air it out type of offense (Don't say Purdue). We will likely throw the ball 30-40 times and have probably the best receiving corp you have seen all year (minus maybe Michigan, but they would need a QB to do well with them, Henne stinks). We also have two dual threat QBs that will rotate in and give your D fits.
No doubt that it will be the most balanced offense that OSU has faced all year...Our offense has become nearly unstoppable since the receivers stopped having those bad drops.
IMO Boeckman shows a lot more poise than Zwick and I don't think he is a world beater either. However, I don't think TB will lose the game for OSU. We have multiple targets that may not be as talented as LSU's but they find ways to get open and they don't drop the ball. It's not a bad group and considering the hit we took last year in that department they have done very well.
I think we have a ton of advantages here. OSU did not beat a team that is currently in the top 25. LSU Beat 4 and lost to 1. Two of those teams are currently in the top 10 (VT FLA). OSUs major accomplishments were beating a team in the Alamo Bowl and another team that got a mercy bid to the Capital One Bowl. If OSU had played a game in the last two weeks against a top 25 opponent (We played 2), you probably dont stay in the top 10. I don't think it is Tiger Fans underestimating you, I just don't think OSU is as good as 4 or 5 of the teams we've beaten.
Well, a good start would be to have fewer than 5 penalties in the first half and not use all three timeouts in the first quarter just to avoid three more delay of game penalties. I wouldn't change much on the offense except fix the buffoonery. If we do that... I'm happy to challenge Ohio State to stop the Tiger offense. :geaux: :crystal:
