Re: Crowton to Bears? Rumor crushed - ^(*(*% i sincerely hope thats nothing more than a rumor. it goes against everything i have heard, and have heard for a few months. do i think gc can sink the whole staff? yep, that part i believe. but i think it will be with miles being forced to keep him for the reasons ggh laid out above.
Re: Crowton to Bears? Rumor crushed - ^(*(*% So you're saying Miles waits and waits to stick up for his good buddy until AFTER the Bears move was a done deal, and only THEN bothers to say something to the AD? That makes zero sense.
This quote to me is the most telling of the whole situation...it doesn't sound like the most healthy situation. If we don't see GC leave, then I think Miles integrates BG into the GC system, making the transition to BG smooth after next year.
We dont have any choice but to go with the flow but all these quotes and stories sound like a dysfunctional situation in the making.
Re: Crowton to Bears? Rumor crushed As I said before, if Miles hand gets forced due to the buyout, he has done the best he could to cover his ars. Look for Gonzales to be more than just a WR coach and QB coordinator. I would guess he will be like an onfield OC without the title.
Re: Crowton to Bears? Rumor crushed - ^(*(*% yes, but what were the winning percentages for saban's predecessor? that's the kicker. when saban took over our program was floundering, so his winning percentages are naturally going to be lower because of rebuilding. clm took it over after great changes had been made. like it or not, saban was primarily responsible for lsu's resurgence. even now, i believe that once a player comes into sabans system he probably leaves being a better player than under clm system. i believe jj would've been further along by now if he was under a disciplined system like saban. i also believe saban burns his people out. this is also why i have doubts about whether saban can establish any continuity at one place because it seems he has attitude that people can only handle for so long.
Actually, Dinardo left Saban with lots of talent. Someone here did the research and found that there were lots of people currently in the NFL who were recruited by Dinardo that Saban inherited. I was really surprised, personally. I don't mind people criticizing Miles, but when they are cavalier in dismissing his accomplishments, I strongly disagree. People who don't like Miles and want to completely take away his true accomplishments by claiming he won with Saban's players are revealing their ignorance. Those players recruited by Saban that Miles won the national championship were, for the most part redshirts and backups that got few (or no) reps in practices when Saban was here. That's why Saban's last season included five losses...those were the players Miles inherited. I think you're post was good and I agree that Saban is a better coach and develops his players more than Miles. I think the staff has done a bad job with Jefferson and Lee...maybe they're trying to fit a square peg in a round hole. But he seemed a lot better in last year's bowl game than at the end of this year. He seemed a lot better when he dropped to pass and then ducked and ran than he did during Crowton's "Meercat" phase. Miles made wholesale changes in the defensive staff last year that paid dividends. This year, he made some real good offensive changes...unfortunately not at the coordinator level like last year. We may be stuck with Crowton, so Miles can't be CEO any more...he has to take charge when it comes to the offense. I hope Billy Gonzales has an important role. And someone really needs to coach the quarterbacks. Chase 4lsu Pm'd me and corrected me about the five losses...it was three...including a loss in the CapOne bowl. The five losses were the year before the NC in 2003. I should be more careful. sorry.
Re: Crowton to Bears? Rumor crushed - ^(*(*% No, Dinardo and the guys that played for Dinardo were primarily responsible for LSU's resurgence. Saban continued that and Miles continued that. Both Saban and Miles did similar jobs continuing what Dinardo built... both had similar win pct over their 1st five years (Miles a little higher than Saban) and both won a National Title.
What's the evidence of how Saban develops players better than Miles? I've never seen any evidence of that with my own eyes and I've never seen anybody make a case that backs that claim up. Okay so Jefferson and Lee didn't turn out to be great as 19-year-olds? Was QB Marcus Randall any better under Saban? As for our OL this year, that was a big let-down, and I don't remember that happening under Saban. That's something I plan to look into more.
