Re: Crowton to Bears? Rumor crushed - ^(*(*% part of what bothers me is if what is floating about that miles wants rid of gc but it comes down to money. however the ath dept and/or boosters can afford the buyout so by telling clm "no" that it will only happen if gc moves on, they are taking the hiring and firing out of clms hands and who he has on staff is no longer up to him. if that is the case (that miles wants gc gone but its not happening due to $$) i think that is wrong. because in this case i think the program would be healthier without gc and the money is there one way or another. it seems to be sacrificing the health of the fb prog for $$ which could cost a lot more in the long term. it seems very short sighted to me. not to menion it sends a message that the hc does not have control of who is on staff.
Re: Crowton to Bears? Rumor crushed - ^(*(*% I can see your point, but he was allowed to just hire Gonzales and Wilson, so I don't think this is the case. I really think if it is a money thing it is really more about the economics and the cutbacks that are being discussed.
Re: Crowton to Bears? Rumor crushed - ^(*(*% true. but the oc is too important a position to pull this on. it goes back to what i said earlier of potentially being penny wise pound foolish by costing more in the long term. and who is negotiating for lsu? first it looks like stud has the upperhand in a contract buyout and there is no incentive for him to take another job. now it looks like gc has a cushy multi-year buyout. we need scrooge negotiating for lsu.:hihi:
Re: Crowton to Bears? Rumor crushed - ^(*(*% And my point is that the prospect of a significant amount of lost revenue resulting from maintaining this arrangement should supercede any other consideration, especially if the level of friction between Les and GC is that high. Legislators know where their bread is buttered, and they're already in enough hot water with all the education cuts they've already made. Our fans may be spoiled, entitled, whatever, but they're not stupid. At this point they know what kind of product to expect from Stud and GC. So I see keeping the status quo as a big gamble, with the odds definitely not in our favor and the stakes way too high.
Re: Crowton to Bears? Rumor crushed - ^(*(*% This would be the exact reason why they wouldn't do it. Kinda hard for the academic side to come asking for money when the athletic side is wasting it. A public image of athletics are more important than academics is something the school isn't willing to risk. All of this of course if predicated on that Crowton still stays. I still contend a lot of coach speak going on with these interviews. That said, should GC stay, I think Miles has put himself into a position where he has a security blanket in Gonzales. With the extra duties Gonzales will be taking on GC shouldn't be having the sole say in the offensive operations. This would get us through next season, with the possibility of have a record no worse than it is. If that happens, Miles will still be safe, but then can shyt can GC without any financial recourse. As for the possible loss in revenues to the football program, I don't see that happening. It has continually been on the rise under Miles, a 9-4 season and being unhappy about GC isn't going to stop the money train that the football program has become.
Re: Crowton to Bears? Rumor crushed - ^(*(*% Reading between the lines, it seems that CLM wanted to get rid of GC...and it's not so much that the buy out is too much for LSU to afford, but that it's so much because CLM pushed so hard last year to get GC his raise and make him the highest paid OC in college football. IIRC, his 'raise' didn't take effect until not long ago in 2009, and some people are pissed that CLM pushed for so much money and a few months later is saying, "I want to fire this guy." It's a bit of a 180 on them. And it seems as though Alleva said, "you dug this hole, you dig yourself out of it." THAT's what I get out of it. I can understand the sentiment, because the raises for the staff after last season were not warranted, IMO. But by doing this, Alleva is, IMO, costing LSU a lot more money in the long run. A lot of pride and egos are involved in what happened last week. It reminds me of the 80s.
Re: Crowton to Bears? Rumor crushed - ^(*(*% EXACTLY!!! that what i keep coming back to. it doesnt matter what went down before, or why minds may have changed, bottom line is we have an oc that it appears NO ONE wants, but we are being forced to keep. this is an instance of being very short sighted by not canning his ass.
Re: Crowton to Bears? Rumor crushed - ^(*(*% I know its not what many of you want to hear, but there is also a rumor going around that it was a done deal and Alleva had one more meeting with GC and CLM to finish it up when CLM went to bat for GC. He basically tied his future at LSU to GC's and Jefferson's performance next year. If the team doesn't make improvements, then Miles and all staff will be out the door after next season.
